hmmm 50 ton press... that might prove difficult for me to obtain access to. Not sure if my father's work has one to deal with this. Guess I'll be buying the stock mounts then as I don't have the extra 300 for the core charge for the solid mounts and cannot have the car down for more than a day's time.
Well, though this is not the widely accepted method of "pressing" the inserts into the mounts this is how I did it without a press. (As a side note, this was with another retailer's version of the poly inserts so the hardness may be different)
Get some heavy duty hose clamps (or t-bolt clamps if you got em) large enough to fit around the poly piece. Use Vaseline on the surface of the mount and the poly, then tighten the hell out of a hose clamp about 1/4" up from the bottom of the poly. Set the poly insert on the opening for the mount and beat with a rubber mallet. Once the poly is in enough to touch the hose clamp, move the hose clamp up another 1/4" and repeat until the whole thing is in there. The Vaseline is key to getting them to go in there though.

Guess I'll be using Comp-U's method here along with a jack press I have here at my work's fab shop. Owner said I could pull the car into the building... I'm like "You sure?"... Needless to say the entire building will hear the car pulling in as the flex pipe on the down pipe is torn loose. :-) I'll be sure to give a good rev before shutting it down.
VERY VALUABLE lessons learned today. Don't spend all your money until your DD problems are fixed, if a vendor says it requires "Professional" install... more than likely it means unless you have access to a fabrication and automotive shop, you do not have the means to install said parts. Last but not least... Just because it looks relatively easy by logic... does not mean it is easy.
Story in short...
I bought 3SX's Polyurethane Solid Mount inserts, asked 1 question... (where in reality I should have asked several questions before buying because had I known what I know now vs then... I would have bought a full set of OEM Mounts and be done with it.) I pull out the driver side upper mount easily once I had the motor jacked up to alleviate the weight. Being all happy that it was that easy to get out, I go inside and grab something to eat. I come back out and take a look at the mount itself, that's when the reality of things set in on me.... I could not figure out how to get the pins or the core itself out. So I proceed to cut out the rubber part with a jigsaw which then led to figuring how how to get the outer ring of the core out... after several attempts... it really dawned on me... I can't do it (not without the proper equipment) and yet I am mechanically inclined. I piece everything back together and put it back in. Currently it's holding but I know that I cannot push it beyond driving like my grandmother does until I get a set of OEM mounts now.
Let this be a lesson to you folks out there who are new to autocrossing, aftermarket modifications and so forth... ASK PLENTY OF QUESTIONS AND DO PLENTY OF RESEARCH AND DO NOT SPEND ALL OF YOUR MONEY UNTIL YOUR GOAL IS FINISHED.
Any rate... anyone here able to tell me an "easy" way of getting the old rubber cores out... or is that pretty much impossible without the press or buying new pins?
