Default Re: 3SX TD05 Kit install?

I so far...knock on wood...havent had fitment problems but all i did was install the manifolds and bolt on the turbos and feed lines, I didnt do the drain lines, precats, or even clock the turbos. Only thing close to a problem was installing the rear manifold to the head the bottom nuts have to be installed with the manifold away from the head a little, but patience and hand starting each screw made it easy...u really do have to start the bolts then align everything and it goes on.

Just for clarity, I can personally attest to our EVOIII turbos sold with our kit having both locator pins/dowels as with any EVOIII turbo. One for comp cover one for turbine housing.

Matt and I will get with Steve to create a small writeup on things like the clocking to add to the kit when shipped. Some things you take for granted like people that will be installing turbos would know about clocking. But that happens when you do this day in day out. You forget others are doing this for the first time. What we think is known is only known to us from experience.

I can say this, I have seen many turbo kits before for many platforms. Instructions are always lacking, parts half there, things not assembled fully. The 3SX kit is fairly assembled, complete with feeds and returns assembled and ready to go sans the clocking. To me that's pretty cool.

Any other questions about the kit don't hesitate to ask either here or email/call us at the shop

Default Re: 3SX TD05 Kit install?

The problem with the 3sx kit from my experience are as follows:
1 The turbo should have been clocked, flapper welded and waste gate actuator removed.
2 The rear turbo manifold where the pipe meets the EWG should be closer to the turbo exhaust housing
3 There should be some instructions that we should grind the gearbox bracket.
4 The manifold gaskets where not the same size so now I am using the OEM that were on the car.
5 I think the kit should come with turbo support bracket to prevent the manifolds from cracking (Think I will custom that)

Really besides that it seems pretty good and the price is alrite if it gets you big power

This is not the first time my friend (mechanic) clocks a turbo, but first time installing the 3sx kit. This is the first time he clocks a turbo with a welded pin in the compressor. He installed the IPS kit with the MHI E16G and it did not have this back pin and said that it was easier! Not trying to start a war here just telling 3sx performance what we experienced and where it can improve.

Just for clarity
The compressor locater pin is not welded. It's the same locater pin you will find in any EVOIII comp housing and notched CHRA. This is not a 3SX special pin, they all have them. I have never run across one that didn't. This includes the regular dsm 16G.

Most kits I have seen don't come with the turbo clocked. That is for the installer/customer to handle since all installs are slightly different. It's a pretty common and simple task but can be time consuming. If we were to do it for the customer #1 we would be adding on time/labor to the kit which would raise the price and #2 chances are it wouldn't match up to the car ie:IC pipes etc so it would have to be redone by the consumer. So it's better left as is.

I have taken all the pics during clocking and WG removal and in the process of creating the how to document. This will be included in future kits shipped out.
If you have any other questions please post them here or call the shop and we will walk you thru it.

I just talked to someone there to clarify a few things and went well. He was sayin though the front turbo has to be clocked, which i didnt think so, the compressor outlet was right on top, my rear had to be clocked though. My feed line was on the bottom and return was on top, i loosened the band, shaved down the alignment pin and bolted it back up, everything is where its suppose to be, and a friend of mine is gonna tack weld the wastegates tomorrow and ill prolly finish bolting everything on tomorrow. So far there IPO, im satisfied with the kit, i understand all the little things i guess cause im a mechanic but figured u guys needed some encouragement with all the negativity..

thanks

As for your front, for the turbo outlet to face up you are correct the front turbo does not need clocking. But to interface with the stock IC lines it needs to be clocked to point downward to the stock hose. Matt has done this on his street car and is using all the stock ic hoses, and I mean stock hoses LOL.

just wanna get this up, i have everything installed except the downpipe and wanna let everyone know everything fit without modification. Now the rear wastegate line does come real close to the rear valve cover, but whats nice is that pipe is removable or u can twist it back and forth for it to fit. The other thing is INSTALL FIRST, TIGHTEN SECOND. Everything fits but make sure its fully assembled everything then tighten or you will pay, haha.

The hardest thing for me was clocking the turbo, which wasnt hard at all but like steve said i've never done that before so i took my time, shaved the 1 down and drilled the other 1 down. Sealed everything back up and fits great.

The 1 thing i didnt like were the return lines.....they seemed to be cut just enough to make it work. I dunno if all braided td05 lines are like that but i wished they woulda put in some slack. I actually kinked my rear line but got it straightened back out.

Like i said before my motor is out of the car so it still isnt gonna be running soon but just wanted to add my piece. Im pretty satisfied with the kit, so far everything is great, but havent turned the car on yet, haha. Anyways thanx 3sx for answering my stupid questions and we'll see what happens when it runs.
