for "out of the box" performance, the evo wins hands down. but for the $$$ that they are charging for it--i'll keep to a used car w/ upgrades.
Seems like the real issue here isn't the Evo at all. What car over 40,000 can a VR4 not be made to be "faster" than with adding however many mods it takes to get to the purchase price of said car?
When the VR4 was new adjust for inflation and it was pricier than the new Evo. at that same time couldn't you get a used Corvette and add on $20,000 in mods to be faster than a Vr4?
all im saying is you put that much cash into just about any used car or truck for that matter, it will be fast.

The whole point of the Touring model is to compete with similarly-priced entry-level luxury cars like BMW's and whatnot. Look at all the "creature comfort" crap that has been added to it.
People who are looking for a new vehicle to tear up the track on the weekends are not the intended market. Those folks are already buying the regular MR's (2008 model = $30-32k these days) or a GSR if they prefer a manual and don't like ~400hp limitation of the MR's transmission.

wow, there's no edit button here.
anyways...it's the same mentality as trying to sell gt-500's. sure, it's got a few bells & whistles...but it's still the same overall car (on the outside) as a v6 mustang for 18k (or whatever they sell for).
same here. it may be king of the evo's...but it's still a lancer. same as the 14k base--just glorified.
people with 40k to burn in this fashion will be buying benz, beemer & audi--not lancers.

Nonetheless, it's a Lancer. Merely a grocery getter with a new drivetrain and suspension. This is asinine, and there's no getting around that.
