I've heard that you can mix it with bleach & water and put it in a steam vacuum, and that works even better. I never thought of using dye to "clean" the carpet, but maybe I'll do that. I've used that brand of dye, and I did the salt method (i was dying wristbands) but the wristbands still seem to wash out a tiny bit, so they have to be handwashed with cold water...dunno what the issue with that is..

Just wanted to say thanks for the info. I did mine and the end result was outstanding. I always wanted black carpet but didn't want to go aftermarket and try to force it to fit....
I even got the wife helping after I showed her the pictures. I told her if she can do it then you can too. One side done for comparison. After the 2nd application it was even darker. Pitch black and perfect. ![]()

Final product. Let dry for a few days. None of the dye rubs off or bleeds. Perfect. (in pictures it has a slight purple tint but in person it's pitch black)
Next up is the headliner. It seems to be a completely different kind of material and i'm not sure the Rit Dye will hold to it. Off to research... ![]() Last edited by gearheadvr4 : 09-30-2007 at 06:51 AM. |
