I've heard that you can mix it with bleach & water and put it in a steam vacuum, and that works even better. I never thought of using dye to "clean" the carpet, but maybe I'll do that. I've used that brand of dye, and I did the salt method (i was dying wristbands) but the wristbands still seem to wash out a tiny bit, so they have to be handwashed with cold water...dunno what the issue with that is..

You are so right! She has really gotten into this stuff. Check out my back seat conversion thread. She came up with the final, simple design and her ceative idea for making a fantastic texture was perfect!

I am now starting to mold in a 10" screen into the dash and like a trooper, she is right there eagerly helping with anything she can. It makes it a alot of fun when your wife loves to get involved!

Oh....what is a 'bling'?

Just wanted to say thanks for the info. I did mine and the end result was outstanding. I always wanted black carpet but didn't want to go aftermarket and try to force it to fit....

I even got the wife helping after I showed her the pictures. I told her if she can do it then you can too.

One side done for comparison. After the 2nd application it was even darker. Pitch black and perfect.

Final product. Let dry for a few days. None of the dye rubs off or bleeds. Perfect. (in pictures it has a slight purple tint but in person it's pitch black)

Next up is the headliner. It seems to be a completely different kind of material and i'm not sure the Rit Dye will hold to it. Off to research...

Yes, there are some tan dyes out there but generally you can only go darker not lighter.
