I know what you're talking about. Mine does this too. It also "rattles" when halfway down and my stereo is playing with a good amount of bass.

I was thinking it is the stripping along the outside of the door, since it's deteriorating. It is brittle and no longer holds the glass snuggly. I plan on replacing mine and we will see if that helps.

Mitsubishi Re: loose windows??

Mine does the same thing. Not sure if it is a big deal or not but the noise it makes doesnt make it sound all that great.

My ES never did this until it was in a hit n run and needed the door replaced. SOB.

I've had another 3s apart and noticed there is little plastic pieces with felt on them that are there to prevent the rattling (I think.) These get worn over time. You are able to adjust these somewhat but I wasn't able to get it perfect. That would be my best guess.

Tightening up the track may help as well.

I have another rattle too that drives me insane! It's when my sunroof is closed, it rattles. It's the automatic sunroof on the '95 3000GT.

It's hard to really pinpoint what is causing the rattle, but it seems to stop if you press up on the inside of the roof, about an inch in from where the sunroof opens.

Obviously you can't keep doing that while driving, so I just always open the sunroof to get rid of the rattle. Still, it's annoying and I wish I knew how to fix it.

Yep, look right where the window meets the door, on the outside. There should be 3 or 4 (or more) little soft fabric things that guide the door near the top and make sure nothing scratches it. One of mine got old and fell out, and now I have the rattle (I believe they are riveted on). Same could have happened above, or they could just be really worn.
