Default Hiding an AVIC-D3 behind factory stereo

Just thought I'd post this, as it worked out so well I think others might like it.
I had to drill new holes in the stereo mounts to drop the D3 further into the dash, then I gutted the factory head unit, flattened the back side, and it slips in as a dummy cover over the D3. Small pull tab on the left makes it easy to pop out on the fly, but all of the important info (Ipod info, XM, even nav data) shows though the factory cover.

And even looking close you can't tell it's anything more than the factory stereo.

note - the volume button just sits on top of the D3s volume dial. It is not attached, but deep enough that it stays in place. I forgot to pull it off for the open pic.

Lol, yea that would be true, unless they were trying to refurbish their old 3000GT and saw the vintage radio in his car. They would be in for a big surprise. xD

Thats an awesome idea you had. I wish I had a non-functioning oem head unit, I would probably copy your idea. xD

They are dirt cheap on ebay - and you don't have to worry about it working
eBay Motors: 93-96 Stealth 3000GT AM FM Cassette Stereo Radio 56886B (item 320237671090 end time Apr-15-08 08:23:14 PDT)

I've also seen a few at local junk yards, and without the code they go for about $25. I picked up another one (paid $50 for one with a code) just in case I ever sell the car. Though that is unlikely.
