You may be able to use an automotive-grade vinyl repair adhesive (through someone like Eastwood Company) and at least seal up the tear so you won't get any water seepage on the fiber backing that'll cause bubbling of the surrounding vinyl. I've yet to use any of the kits Eastwood Co. sells, but am tempted to give it a try as I have a small burned section on one of mine from a previous owner who smoked. I believe the kits come with a heat tool that accepts various vinyl patterned-tips to match the grain after applying the "liquid" vinyl (not really sure what the composition is).
