Default Count the shifter mods

A few quick mods from a while back, along with brass bushings under the hood. Very tight and clicky now.

IIRC, most of the play with this one was side to side, which necessitated taking up slack on the spring loaded rod by threading and installing nuts along the length. Not sure of the exact size offhand but I can check.

Then there was some slight play in the thru bolt where the shifter mounts to the base -- this was minimized by shimming the sides of the shifter between the sides of the bracket where the bolt slides thru. Tape was used to shim the bolt / hole on the shifter to tighten up that interface. Cut the shifter itself and tig welded it back; not much to do with slop on that point.

Otherwise, the fore/aft shifter cable bushing was loose on its mount, so the rod was shimmed with another piece -- I believe that was part of a stock underhood bushing, which had to be drilled slightly to fit the dowel.

And finally, the 4 mounting bushings for the base were removed and the (now 3) bolts were torqued with washers for a solid bushingless mount. A good chunk had been cut out of the base with an oxy fuel torch, as the factory design proved to be overly strong and heavy.

now pickup the roller bearing shifter if you really want to make things perfect.

Roller bearings sound nice. Possibly smoother than tape.

I love solid bushings, I have a complete set on my dsm(underhood and base) and it feels great. Nice and tight < heh, that's what he said
