High insurance rates aren't that far fetched. I pay $800 every six months for two cars. That's full coverage on my vr4 and liability on my work beater. Now take into account that I'm 30 and single. Then you have to take into account that I have a clean driving record, no tickets or accidents. But I get reamed because of my credit score. That's why insurance is so high for most people, especially teenagers. You have not credit history, which is worse than bad credit most times.
Insurance companies claim that they did research and found people that maintain good credit are less likely to have accidents or need to file claims. It's all about the insurance companies getting their money really. Your driving record plays a very minor roll in your rates. So while $6500 may seem far fetched, I find it very believable. It really depends on how your insurance policy is written. Also people who have been ticketed for not having insurance really get hammered. |
