Default start of a long journey

well, i want to make a build thread, so, today is the start. i considered putting this in general section, but decided against it, im still a noob.

this is mainly going to be pictures for today. i want everyone to see what im working with!

its a 1994 vr4 with about 85000 on the body. i got it to my house for about 3500. maybe an impulse buy, maybe not. the engine came inside the car, in boxes, and i got pretty much all of it. here are some pics of parts

i have 4 alternators, i think 2 are from an eclipse, and two for the vr4

25 spline =)

ported and polished (i think) =) came to me like that

so all in all, i am kinda worried about it. it will cost me about 3-4k to get the engine back up and running (machine work alone will be like almost 2k). i am thinkin heavily about doing the 3.5 swap. i would like to get as close to 500awhp as i can. no matter what engine i run...

and for a cherry on top, my 2 prides facing off =)

Nice, looks like quite the project though. The 3.5 would be a lot of work with all the fabbing and parts you need to find, but then again, so is putting that engine together, especially if you've never done one of these before. Good luck!

Pretty sweet..., I was considering doing the same thing... picking up a vr-4 for 2400 with a bad motor and fixing it all up but I really can't afford to have a project yet :-/

Looks like you got ALOT of work ahead of you.... no mirrors or side markers, if you plan on keeping that front bumper ugh but w/e, putting that whole 6g72 back together will be quite enduring. Are the parts all old or mostly new... looks like some are in good condition just never got around to being put on. Good luck with everything, where are you located?

i live on the outskirts of lexington kentucky. i know some of you all wont like the front bumper, sorry, its stayin. i have other things i need to spend my money on lol, plus i am not trying to appeal to everyone else, i am trying to make myself happy.

yeah, it will be a really big project, but i think its doable. plus i have a dd, and no time limit.

as far as the 3.5 goes, all the parts (or most of them) that i would need, that dont already come on the engine, i have sitting in my garage right now in boxes. the pics i showed you all of the boxes of parts... thats less than half of them. the rest is under the house, i dont feel like digging them out to take pics.

i have posted about this in other threads, but i am still sticking with a goal of the 500 awhp range. i dont think its ridiculous, but we shall see =)

on a 3.0 it's not impossible just depends on what you are gonna do... OBVIOUSLY 9b's won't get you anywhere near 500 what are you gonna do to get there?

And here I thought my complete car was a project...Good luck with it and you definitely have a lot of work ahead of you. Your goal is doable, but will definitely require quite a bit of $$.

yeah, i have another dd, so i can save. i may be young (19) but im really good with money, and it helps that my parents let me live at home free of charge. i think a 2.5-3 year time limit will be doable. that puts me just out of college which is what i want.

as far as what i wanna do to get there, i first have to decide on the engine. my dad is a car genius and we have done plenty of research... well... i have. and i may be dropping a 3.5 in there and building off of that. i will see though, its not in stone by any means.

if not, i will be building a 3.0 from bottom to top, probably putting 19t's on it and all supporting mods (fuel controls, injectors, boost controls, intercooler, the usual...). netting 450 awhp is VERY doable, its the 500 mark that will be a killer. if i can do the 3.5 how i want, 500 is cake, but it will take some ingenuity and using up all of my available resources (i am a mechanical engineer, i have access to all sorts of machining tools).

the potential idea (it seems my ideas change from day to day) is, a 6g74 with a 6g75 crank, with new rods (probably custom who knows) and pistons. thats about a 3.75l engine at that point. do the heads up how i want to, and it will probably be about the same, if not a little more power of a stock 6g72tt (its fine if everyone disagrees, its just an idea). then i will twin turbo that... so... im looking at an easy 500 right there. but who knows, i will make sure to keep everyone updated on it all. its exciting for me no matter what i choose!

Our cams and heads can withstand up to 700hp just so you know. It has been proven.

Sounds like a nice little college graduation present to yourself. That's sort of what the '99 was for me. I think 500whp is very reasonable and very doable. It will be a fun little ride, that's for sure.

Just one note though, if you're going to keep the horrendous bumper, perhaps you could at least paint match it to the rest of the car? Maybe it's just how the pictures came out, but that bumper doesn't even look close to the body.

Wish I had dumped all my graduation money into getting a sweet vr-4... instead I bought a sick drum kit and drove an old beat up FC for a year :-/
