want to buy a 3kgt
|
hello people,
for the past month or two ive been thinking about buying a 3000gt. but i dont know too much about the cars. But every time i see one i think: man i wish I had one. first i will have to say that i like highway racing, and i was wondering if the 3000gt will suit my needs.(nice takeoff and alot of high rpm power). i was wondering which model, sl or vr4, is better for street racing?? are the cars reliable in the long run? im hoping to find a good model for under $15,000. im asking will you please help my in this situation without bashing me for the question that i asked |

two words "turbo chargers". as long as you have the money for it, vr4 is the way to go

Out of the box performance - the VR4 is MUCH better suited for street racing, as it has mucho traction at it's disposal (AWD). The SL is inherently much more difficult to work with as it's FWD and doesn't come with turbo's, but with a little time/effort/cash you can throw some on there and have much better roll advantages compared to a VR4.

the VR-4/R/T TT is not any more or less reliable than an SL, they are built off of the same platform. I guess the big difference is that the TT's have more moving parts to maintain but the gains are so much more worthwhile. If you are planning to buy a 3/S you won't be disappointed with the TT. You should test drive both; after you let those turbos kick in and put you back in the seat, it just isn't the same going N/A.

Well you did say high way racing. In this case the AWD wouldnt really matter as they are allready at the get go. Its just up to you and your wallet. As said before a vr4 is fast right out of the cerreal box, but if you get an SL your gona need to add some milk to that cereal if you wanna win races....if u know what i mean!
Someone on here has a quote in their sig that sums up a SL. Its like having a dick with no balls! I love that one lol. but ne how being an owner of both a TT and a N/A, through my experience i woudl say get a TT. They also are made better to do the fact that they were ALOt more expensive! |

There is no room for debate, so don't kid yourself... the tt models were never as reliable as N/A models even though the difference may not be that much. Ask any tt owner on this board. Quit trying to tell the guy the N/A's are less reliable; if anything, it's the opposite. Yes, there are tt's that last a long time but not the majority. They weren't exactly designed to be reliable, just fast, etc. This is the ONLY reason I have held off getting a vr4. It's hit or miss, and I'm not going to take a chance (since I have only one car). Well, I take that back, they MAY have been reliable when first made, but you won't ever be able to buy one brand new now and the reliability highly depends on previous ownership. So, be careful if you get a vr4, make sure 60k and/or 120k were done, make sure the transfer case was taken care of, etc. Like I said, I'd get a vr4 in an instant if I could rest assured that they are not going to break on me. Now, to answer your question, the N/A models are still a little quicker than your average car, but aren't anywhere near tt models in terms of power. If you want to run with the big boys you have to get a vr4. If on the other hand you just like the looks and comfort of the car, get the SL or base model. Either way, you're still riding in style.
