I'm not a new owner, but I am new to painting cars and datalogging... first off, what is required to datalog? My car is a '94 15g car with all the supporting mods, and I am basically looking to make sure I am not getting too much knock or anything. Essentially just want to make sure nothing is going wrong, and when I get the chance I will have the car tuned on the dyno. I understand that '94 is a hybrid year so my options are somewhat limited, but I just don't know whats out there and searching hasn't really gotten me the answers I am after. Is there some sort of cable I can buy and a program and just hook my laptop up to it? Or do I have to buy a separate gadget to use? Also can it pull codes? I have a check engine light...
Also, I have been contemplating getting my car painted for a while. No major paint issues, but a bunch of scratches here and there and a few fade spots...and the hood was repainted horribly (paint ran a bit and is cracking in some places). There is one dent on the drivers rear quarter panel that would need to be fixed. Also I would be changing the bumper to a '98, which has a couple areas that would need work. What do you guys think a quality paint job should cost? I would want just a repaint of the same color (panama green) most likely, so no work has to be done for door jams and under the hood and all that. I was told by one shop that a paint job would be at least $2000, but probably closer to $3000, which seemed like a lot to me. I was hoping to get a quality paint job for $1500 or less, but it seems like that may not be possible. Thoughts? Thanks for any help... |

Grab a Palm M505 or M515 from ebay, then either the Hand Held Halo or Miragecorp datalogging software.
I have Mirage Computers, Inc. - Automotive Products Yes you will be able to diagnose and clear CELs. I don't know how you have a well running 15G car without one ...

Like lawdogg said, basically for the datalogging you have either Hand Held Halo or MirageCorp. Those are the only 2 available for the hybrid ECU.
As far as the paint is concerned, it sort-of depends on the color, but I'd suspect at least 2k-3k for a none pearl color especially since you said that the front bumper would need some work and probably 3k-4k if your repainting it a pearl color. Quality paint jobs are extremely expensive.

you could always hire a spray mate portable paint compressor and paint the car your self. this way would work out cheaper but i would highly recommend getting a beater panel to practice on first and use cheap paint to practice with.
you would need 2k primer, 2k base coat and 2k clear along with 2 gallon of 2k std thinners an 1/2 gallon of activator (hardener) this is if your car is a pearl color? if not and its a solid color you can get direct gloss that requires no clear to produce a shine . you will also need production paper and nitro filler in 2k to fill the scratches. oh and finally..a good mask!
