Default Opinion about buying this 3KGT VR4

I've been looking around for awhile. This showed up on craigs not too long ago. This is indeed a project car, but what's a fair price for this beast?

1993 3000GT VR4 Twin Turbo AWD AWS Great Leather!

He's asking $4k... that's pretty high for the shape it's in. Do you think I'd be low balling asking $2k?

I got an email reply. He said that he "suspects" that the engine was rebuilt but doesn't know for sure. He also states it has a clean title. And he claims that the turbos don't leak. He says that everything in this car is original parts otherwise. I've read a couple of F.A.Q's about what to look for when buying a 3KGT VR4 but I really just want to confirm this with you fine folks at 3si. I'm willing to spend money on this guy... but not drop my whole financial future for it, if you know what I mean hehe.

Thanks for your time everyone,
Brandon

A POS looking car that doesn't run? I'd offer less than 2K even.

Yeah, You figure doing the paint job, which if you can't do it will be a huge pain, and I'd just replace the engine, possibly the turbo's, and check the tranny. With 190k miles, I think it's time to pull that thing, just so you avoid doing it down the road. At least that's my opinion.

Oh yeah, and to answer the question about your financial future, if you don't want to be in debt until you're on your death bed, then keep looking.

I wouldn't give someone more than $1,000 for that car. Its probably going to need a shit ton of work and soon. If you know how to do all the work yourself it might be worth it but otherwise stay the hell away from that thing.

Wow, that's definitely not a $4,000 VR-4. I'd say your ball park figure would probably be the most I'd offer for that project.

Indeed. If I can talk him down to about $1200... I think the purchase would be worth it... as I have a car already that's paid off.
