I recently installed new brake pads on my 91 FWD 3000gt.
MY passenger side is perfect but the driver side rotor has alot of play in it and eventually shifts forward and rubs metal to metal. How do i adjust the rotor to stay in between the two metel pieces and not rub because it is making an awful sound everytime the tire rotates. Thanks |

Need more info. What do you mean, forward? Towards the front of the car or out towards the side? The rotor is fixed on the hub. Because it has holes for the wheelstuds, it can't (or shouldn't) be moving around much. If your rotor is moving back and forth--meaning towards the back of the car and towards the front--I suspect your rotor is somehow damaged. Pics might help us advise you. Clint

Dust shield is an easy fix.
Put on gloves. Remove the wheel. Squat in front of the wheel as if you were taking a shit on the ground. Place your hands on the dust shield. Summon the manliest grip possible. Grip the dust shield. Bend it back away from the rotor. Put the wheel back on. Problem solved. Clint |

Or just take something long and smash the dust shield back with the wheel on and the car on the ground...thats what I usually do if I accidentally bend it.

ok update its not the dust shield that the rotor is hitting.I just went and checked the wheel again and the rotor is either hitting the metal part inside of the caliper or the brakepads themselves. It makes the loudest noise everytime the tire rotates and has to be the most annoying thing ive ever heard
.Thanks for helping me sort this problem out any more suggestions would be greatly apprieciated |

I'm with the others.. it's impossible.
Did you buy the correct rotors? The rotor tightens as you put your lugnuts on. There is no (logical) way it can move seperate from the caliper & other parts on the wheel assembly. There is either something simple you have missed or you have the wrong rotors. |

1. you put the pad on backwards, is there any scouring on the rotor ?
2. you forgot to put the brake anti squeal on the back of the brake pads and on the caliper guide pins. 3. are you sure its even the front did you check your rear pads, maybe they worn down too much. 4. bad pads / rotors some pads simply make this noise, did you buy the cheapo pads ? or a name brand ? |

ok i will try to get pictures and try to give yall a better explanation tomorrow when i look at it again. The rotor is where it is supposed to be it just is hitting something everytime the wheel spins.
Example: I have the car up on jacks. When i spin the front right wheel that is working perfectly it turns easily. Then when i go to spin the front left wheel that is causing the problems it is much harder to turn. I dont know if that will help you at all but im trying Thanks for all the help |
