That question makes me think of that commercial where the guy goes 'I want my computer to make the sound of a yeti.' I love that commercial, the sound he makes is the sweetest sound EVER!

Ok, I'm a "noob" as Fury put it and this will be my first ever post...I am from Dallas Texas and hear the Stealth and 3000GT scene there is pretty awesome and would love to be involved. I also saw a post earlier about there only being one active female in the midwestern region...I would at least like to be the second!!...lol...I was first introduced to this community by my very good friend UTRacerX9. As a matter of fact, he's the one that got me interested in Stealth's in the first place. I think the Stealth is a magnificent and beautiful automobile and I want to know everything I possibly can about it, especially before purchasing one. I really do appreciate what you guys are doing for us noobs by providing all this wonderful info. The more info we have, the more Stealth's will be preserved rather than ruined by uninformed noobs...lol. Now, I know the first thing any guy thinks when he finds out a female has or wants to get a sports car...it's absolute horror and you want to scream, "No! Don't do it!!!" at us, but this is what I found...and maybe you guys can help me...I happened upon a guy who said he has a 1991 Dodge Stealth for sale in my area...I am currently living in Utah...Now, I went out to look at it, but it was at night and I couldn't see much...but what I saw was a perfect body, paint and interior...It's a Pearl White 1991 Turbo with the red interior...I couldn't see the miles...he said it had only been sitting for a year...I looked under the hood...not too shabby for sitting a year but things need to be polished and cleaned...he said he parked it a year ago b/c the power steering went out...is that really bad or expensive to fix? I mean, the car is far, far, far from being junk...He's asking 3,000...so, please, gimme some feedback and maybe some more questions to ask the guy...is it a worthwhile purchase? I feel like the car needs to be saved from that idiot b/c he's never going to fix it...and before it sits and sits beyond repair, it needs to be restored...lol...thanks for any feedback! Please help!

Welcome to 3si FemTex23. Glad you found this and that you use this site as if it were your only tool regarding your car which really it is the only one
Anyways let me give you some tips. If your new to the stealth and 3000gt platform you shouldn't go off buying a twin turbo car because they require alot of maintanece and you HAVE to have extra money saved up for tragedies and problems. Some of these problems will cost you and arm leg and maybe a skirt too. If you buy a tt then you must either be stinking rich or be a mechanic, you have to treat these cars as if they were family. I would advice to get an es or an sl so you can learn more about our cars, then in a few years or when you know your car from head to toe and you aren't mechanically inclined then you can get a TT. This is just MY advice, there are some people who buy good TT's and don't have to do much maintanence. IF you do decide to get that vr4 then please find a good mechanic that actually know's something about the 3's and tell him to check it out if not then find a 3si member who lives nearby and ask em to check it out for you. 3k for a vr4 is dirt cheap, but for it to be that cheap there is obviously something wrong with it and it may be more than just power steering so take caution when purchasing. If you have any questions then post away. Marc |

Whoa....

Welcome FemTex23, awesome to have here! 3,000$ is a really awesome price for a TT...If yo decide against Fury's advice there are some things to check. First, go see it during the day.... Second, have the guy start it and listen for any wierd sounds ( a light ticking is okay ((heavy emphasis on light)) if it sounds like someone is hammering at the bottom of the car, back away) Ask him if it is okay if you check the condition of the turbos... One way you do this by taking off the Rubber Hoses that connect the Y-pipe to the throttle body and looking at the connecting ends... See any oil pooled in there? If yes, you have a turbo that is getting ready to go... Any leaks, especially in the Transmission or Transfer Case area (Just behind the passenger side tire towards the engine and the front middle of the car) Any leaks from the rear end? Check the tires for alignment... These are a few things that should be checked before buying a TT or VR4. Any reputable shop that deals with Turbocharged cars should be able to do a Pre-Purchase inspection and know what to look for... Don't rush into a car that will look great at night sitting in your driveway cause its broke...
Like Fury said, any questions post away

You've definitely come to the right place FemTex23 - welcome to 3si.
Texas is a good place to be with these cars - and you're correct, there is a pretty nice following down there. One thing off the top of my head to get as much information from the previous owner as possible. Ask for recent repairs, etc. One of the most important things you should find out is if the transfer case recall had been performed. As ABQTT said, check for leaks under the car since its been sitting for so long. If the recall hasnt been performed and the car has been leaking, you definitely want to check into getting it fixed before you purchase the car. If the owner has no idea, take the VIN number down to the local dealership and they'll run it through their computers for you. ![]() If you're feeling extra careful, check the fluid levels. If the fluids are full and in good condition, that would be a sign that this guy takes good care of his car. ![]() Good luck with everything ![]() |

With that being said, I'd say that her post, in itself, counts as a pretty good question to add to the FAQ list. I've lost count of how many "im about to purchase a TT, what should I look for?" threads have been started in this section.Question/Answer Index has been updated. ![]() |
