you can do thqat with any turbo, just not turn up the boost till you have money for supporting mods. What i wold do after installing it is do a mild tune, just to make sure ur a/f ratio is nice.

just save your $$$. bad turbo's means crappy power and mpg. used turbo's means it's a matter of time before they go bad again.

i would not buy used 9b's for anything....but that's just me.

I have a question about the future of our cars: I bought a '94 stealth rt/tt not running. Owner claimed blown headgasket-car would not start, but ran when parked 1 year prior. Disassembly revealed water pump leak (not head gasket)and stuck rings from sitting. Anyway, I'm trying to decide between repair or part out. Repair means I will spend about what a running car would cost. Part out means profit. I'd hate to part out a car that is 1 of 924. Do these cars have a future as a collectible? Already they seem to sell for more that blue book. Have prices topped out or do you expect them to climb and hold or gain value? By the way all I want is a basically stock Sunday driver. Thanks to all who post - I've gotten terrific info here...

if you want quick $$$...then part it. otherwise, it's worth it to rebuild it...depending on what you already paid for.

to me, a $1000 car with excellent body/trashed engine = $12000 new powertrain car nicely modded. and i'd take $12k in that form over 25k in practically any new car.

if you're good at tinkering...i'd say go for a rebuild.

best of luck!

Just a guess, but when the water pump leaked, there's a good chance that the timing belt stretched causing MAJOR internal damage (due to the timing jumping...stretched belt). Valves hit pistons (not "stuck rings").

I'm not saying its a total loss, if the body and interior are in good shape, you can "gamble" on a used engine or get a new short block and rebuild and have a VERY nice 1 of 924....

Bob.

"to me, a $1000 car with excellent body/trashed engine = $12000 new powertrain car nicely modded. and i'd take $12k in that form over 25k in practically any new car."

That has been my train of thought thus far...for what it would cost to restore this car, I can't think of anything else with as much bang for the buck. Besides, like I said I just don't have the heart to eliminate such a limited production car. I just don't want to dump money into a car that won't be worth anything in the near future.

Spyderman-fortunately the internals were in great shape,(amazing actually) aside from the rings-no valve/piston contact (I disassembled everything and had it measured at a reputable machine shop)-in fact I can't believe the quality of these engines compared to the american made stuff I'm used to. So...looks like a rebuild is in the near future to keep another one on the road...

Thanks the the feedback-I'll keep you posted
