Can anyone explain to me why the hell these cars have idle problems? I've had two (94+95) and I thought it was just a problem on the first one but nope, somedays it will idle fine when i start it but generally it will shut back off 2-4 times unless i hold the gas a lil bit. then when it decides its going to idle w/o shutting off it will jump between 300-600 rpm's. On my old one i tried a new mas, i idled it up, i had it put on computers lol, nothin helped, so im hoping someone else has had this problem and knows what to do

new owner. 1994 vr4. i LOVE this car.
bought car in ohio, drove to florida no problems. put a k&n cold air intake on it. now i have a whine (not a whistle) in my turbos between 3800 & 4200 rpms, lasts about a 1/2 second. is this something to worry about. had dealer tech ride in it, said not to worry. i do NOT want to buy new turbos. anyone had anything like this happen to them? trying to find stock intake now but no one has the snorkel, which is important. thanks in advance for help |

I just recently purchased a 93 VR4, but still have to pick it up or have it shipped to me from Milwaukee. It is in MINT condition inside and out and has only 34K original miles. But it has been in (heated) storage for several years. What are some things I should do mechanically before driving this car. Thank you!

flush fluids...especially gas. check tires for dry-rot. eliminate any corrosion from the battery, etc. inspect the brakes.
then, when you go to take her for a spin, go gentle. ease shifts, ease braking. gently ramp up how you drive it...until you are certain it's 100%. nothing is more stupid than flooring it to 100mph the first time it's out...only to find you can't stop it. and it might be a good idea to change that timing belt...seeing as how it's probably 14 years old. |

i might be getting a 93 vr4 really soon and the turbos are going to be dead soon. So my question is what exactly is need to replace the turbos. I mean can i just take out teh old turbos and put in the used 9b turbos i bought off 3si classifieds or is there somethign special you need. Also how would it cost for a shop to do it vs. me doing it?

I'm getting a lot of white smoke while sitting at idle, why?
Ill answer this one. This could be caused by a variety of things but this is the most common cause is: condensation. On a cold night or early morning water will settle in the exhaust pipes and muffler tips. When you start the car and it heats up, the water will burn off as steam. Giving you the white smoke. This is perfectly normal, but to be sure do the following checks: 1. When does it happen? Only on a cold day? or morning? or does it happen all the time at startup. If it happens all the time then go to step 2. 2. If it happens all the time then get a compression test done. It is possible that your head gasket is going bad causing water to enter the combustion chamber. 3. Check your engine oil. Does it look normal or like chocolate milk. Chocolate milk oil is caused by a blown headgasket, which causes water to enter the engines oil supply. Oil and water doesnt mix so it makes the oil have that milky appearance.
