Halo 2 is Nov. 9th!
|
One of my friends who goes by Zolden on a game forum told me about this place a little while back when I almost got my hands on an older model Dodge Stealth, but called about 10 minutes late. Turns out the thing needed new transmission and new AC, so I'm glad it turned out that way.
I went on to own a '97 Mitsu Eclipse GS, 5-Speed of course, completely loaded. About 6 months into it, a nasty wreck in the rain with a combination of not up-to-scratch rain experience, bad tires and a heavy downpour resulted in a totaled Eclipse (speed was not a factor, 40mph, and it was completely fixable even after if rolled over on it's top, but not fixable in our budget). Now that I'm still paying for the Eclipse, we got a HUGE insurance check (the insurance between a 3000GT base and Eclipse was about a $10 difference with my insurance company, so I'm pleased about that. An $800 driving school program at Panoz Racing School at Road Atlanta helped too)and found a nice condition 3000GT, 85k miles, 5-speed, and ready to sell. So a new AC compressor and clutch later, I'm set to go! I've had the car now for over 2 months, and I'm completely in love with it. I've got a few minor problems that I need help with, so I guess I'll start on those now! 1.) I'm getting some clicks at low RPM's from the engine, but I'm going to try heavier oil and filling it with Premium to see if that clears it up. Should do that when I go empty. 2.) The backseat floorboards are always damp! We can't figure it out, and it smells HORRENDOUS in the morning before school. It only started happening after we got the car back from AC work, and from browsing the boards earlier, I'm going to stop by the shop, my car's second home, and see if it's a clogged AC drain plug. Guess it makes since! So about every 3 days since this has started, we pop off the backseats and pull back the carpet and slap a few towels down underneath it to clean it up a bit. 3.) Once I get that fixed, I want to start adding mods to my car and getting some work done on it, so even though I'm pretty familiar with cars, I have a great friend who's Dad is a mechanic, and our carpenter built his own Dragster but he's only worked on classic Chevy's. So, I guess what I'm really askign is, where do I need to start? I'm currently unemployed and work for the rents' and get about 50 a week (after car payments and gas) so I want to start relatively cheap and work my way up. Any kind of guidance and help would be appreciated.4.) NOPI. I'll be there both days! I'd love to include my car with your club, but I'd be quite embarassed to have my so-so GT around all of those nice ones you guys seem to have Sorry it's such a long post, but it's been a long time coming. ![]() |

is drifting WAY too hard!

welcome to the board
what year is your 3000gt? If its a 91-96 then you should have been running premium all this time, you're probably hearing pinging from the engine. If its a 97-99 base with the SOHC motor then u could get away without running high octane.

As far as places to start on mods: pull your resonator, install a decent air intake (K&N's FIPK), put on some sticky shoes, and think about a short shifter. A new downpipe and exhaust would be nice too.
All of the above will add either some fun or some horsepower to your daily drive. -golfpro

as for the damped floorboards ... hmm... check your weather striping... maybe there are some cracks on it... worse case scenario... you maybe have to rip the floor carpet to inspect the floor... it may be rusted and letting moisture inside the car... nothing like taking out the plasma cutter and a sheet of metal and going to town! but that’s worse case scenario... most cases is always weather striping (like my eclipse)anyway.... become to the board... and good luck with the car... Well, I did what golfpro said and pulled the resonator today after I got home from school. Before I did it, I read that it's only a very very tiny boost in low end torque and it makes the engine sound a bit better.
In fact, I noticed a BIG difference, and now the engine sounds exactly how it was meant to sound. Great. I can't WAIT to see what a Air Intake will do for it as soon as I have the money! Thanks, golfpro!~ |
