So I drive a 99 3000GT SL. Its an auto and I had installed a Viper 5900 security system and remote starter. Well my buddy installed this back a couple months ago and is no longer in the area. I went to start my car this morning and nothing. My doors have a hard time locking and unlocking. And on the key display it shows the doors as always unlocked even when locked. The alarm went off on me when trying to use my key to unlock my car and now it seems the LED light that you put inside the car is off. The cars gauges all come on and the headunit but at times the meters flicker. But again when you try to start the car nothing happens. It did start up for a little this morning but it seemed hesitant almost. I left my car at home as i needed to leave for work and now it wont start again. And it seems like everything has gone all haywire. any ideas?

Take it back to the installer... when I had my system installed (granted different than yours) they left a "cold joint" (a bad, not fully melted/adhered joint)... and it didn't show up for about 3 weeks after install.
Did your buddy do it when he was working for a shop, or did he do it as a "favor"... if he was working at a shop, they should stand behind their installers, if he did it as a favor, you are kind of screwed.... another shop can trouble shoot and fix, but they are going to charge you for it.

Yea he worked for bestbuy as an installer and passed some tests and shit. But he now moved away which doesn't help me out now. I spent so much time trying to figure it out and its just wires all over the place! The car for what ever reason now it shows the right turn signal on and the light in the front and rear just stay on....The car still wont start. It did for small period of time again and now it wont. But the security was working for a little opening and locking both doors and churping. But now it just seems like such a mess. I dunno what to do? possibly tow it somewhere?

You didn't answer my question...
Did he work for best buy as an installer and install yours as a bud... or did he work for best buy as an installer, and install yours "IN HIS CAPACITY AS A BEST BUY INSTALLER" If he did it as a bud, you are screwed, if not, you are probably still screwed because you messed with it. Sorry, but thems the cold hard facts. |

No offense to your friend but the average Best Buy/Circuit City installer is as an idiot. There are some good ones (I worked with a few when I was selling back in school) but most suck.
Anyways check your battery. Alot of alarm systems will freak out when battery voltage gets low. That plus the hard starting problem you're talking about makes it sound like that even more. |

The same thing happened to me.
I bought the car and i thought the starter was failing, but it would start (when it felt like it) so I wouldnt mind. So, i tried the Click Click Fix yesterday, and well after that my car completely died. I thought "Hey maybe my starter just finally crapped out once and for all" I bought a new one at Kragen, installed it and still NOTHING. So we give my car a rolling start, and drive it to the local mechanic. The mechanic checks under the car and says no voltage is getting to the starter, its getting cut off before it gets to your relay. So he looks under the steering column and laughs. And he says, did you know your car has an alarm? And i said no. And he said the alarm was a POS to start with and it was wired all shitty. After he disabled it, the car would start like a mo-fo. So now I have to return today after I get out of class. So he can pull my dash out and remove all the Alarm wires outta there. Maybe it's your aftermarket alarm system. It wont hurt to check. |

Yea usually the bestbuy guys don't know what there doing but i trusted my friend..only because he usually knows what hes doing but I think in this case it is the alarm. I thought about the possibility that the battery could be the problem but I don't see how considering my car would fire up when it wants to and my interior lights are on and no signs of draining. I do believe its the alarm system because it keeps trying to remote start my car on its own..It shows the start button on my LED remote sometimes, and the doors still have a hard time locking and unlocking. I really want to do it myself because Im low on cash but theres so many wires and none are labeled and its just a mess. Im hoping they can save my security because Vipers are really good systems. This one is 599$ but the same friend used his discount for me and got it for me for 200$.

I just got back from getting my alarm system removed. He charged me just 45 bucks for the 1 hour labor. If you ask they can pull off the alarm and give you all your shit back. Just make sure to tell them not to snip anything and try to get all the wires out.
What was a real bitch though, was that the guy had to remove my dash to get to the wires. |
