Question a lot of work done, but no results, second gear still grinding, any ideas???

Hi everyone, I have a 98, 3000gt base. I just bought this car two months ago and it went right into the shop as I new the second gear was grinding while going up and coming down.

So far the car has had an overhaul on the transmission replacing the syncros and anything else that looked worn. This did not fix the issue so we put Royal purple syncromesh in as the dealership first tried the factory stuff and this did not do anything. The Master and slave cylinder have been replaced. We also replaced the slave line with a stainless steel braided clutch line and the three other solid lines including the hydraulic line going all the way across the back connecting into the slave line. Other items that have been installed are the fill and drain plugs and the speed-bleeder. The only other idea that I have read about is the throwout bearing which will be installed Monday as they are now at the point that they are willing to remove the transmission and see if anything was not done properly when replacing all the parts inside the transmission.

As you can see this is in the newbies area, but yet I have addressed every area that I could find on the site relating to this issue, but still no results. I really appreciate the knowledge, but I am hoping someone can point me in a new direction that we have not yet addressed.

The mechanic states I am still losing pressure and although when we bleed the lines it runs o.k. for the first few shifts the problem reappears after that,
Any information might help out greatly since I am clueless and the mechanic is also scratching his head as to what this may be.

If it works OK after you bleed the system, but then reoccurs, it's getting air pumped in somewhere.

Just because you replaced the hydraulics doesn't rule them out as the problem.

Are you having any other symptoms besides 2nd gear crashing? does the clutch drag at stops when this is happening?

Question Re: a lot of work done, but no results, second gear still grinding, any ideas???

This being my first 3000gt I am not sure what it should feel like since it was never working properly, but I have owned standard vehicles before. All the gears are shifting smoothly with no issues except second. Also if you allow the car enough time for the rpm's to completely drop it will slip in, but it being second gear this is almost impossible without also coming to a complete stop as I wait. As for the clutch dragging, I read up on this and it sounds like what could be happening in second gear, but it does not occur in any other gear. If it was this, is there any reason it would occur in second, but no other gear?

If the lines and cylinders are replaced, but air is still getting in, what other areas can be allowing this issue? Is there a way to ensure the hydraulics is not the issue? I read somewhere there is a die that can be added to the fluid to show if there are leaks, but it can only be viewed with ultraviolet light. Also the mechanic tells me the fluid drops somewhat, but it is not losing the fluid as if it is a continual leak, not sure if that helps any.

when you find out the answer to your problem please tell me because I am having the same problem with my Spec Stage 2 clutch, I have bled the lines and it was fine but then a few hours later it started again... Some one told me something about adjusting the clutch pedal but I'm not sure...

Actually Royal Purple don't make Royal purple synchromesh. It is syncromax and it did not fix my 2nd gear grind and I also just had new syncros put in.

After a month I drain it and used Pennzoil Synchromesh has not ground even a little and it has been almost a year now.
Not saying it will work for you but I swear it fixed mine smooth as glass now.

Two mechanics took a look at the vehicle and believe that the clutch is not disengaging properly. We should have the clutch in by next week at the very latest, but I am still not sure since it only occurs in second and it would seem as if this was the issue, the car would do this in all gears. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I would have thought the same too, only 2nd grind sounds like a synchro problem.

Have you adjusted the clutch pushrod between the pedal and the CMC?
