Default Lifters or bearings ?

Hey guys, my 92 Dodge Stealth NT ticks sometimes while I am idling, but when I am driving past 3,000 RPM I get really loud ticking especially when decelerating, then wares off around 2,600 RPM.

I was wondering if it was a bearing or lifters ? my oil pressure isnt veyry high all the time and I just got a new oil job down less then 100kms ago, on the highway its under half pressure.

If you know what it is what possibly should I look at getting ?

like new oil pump? bearings or something.

Thanks Scott

oh and it has 178,000 KMs on it. Runs awesome other then the sounds.

Default Re: Lifters or bearings ?

If it is a low clunking noise I would say bearings, if it is a tick at the top of your engine like something is slapping (kind of higher pitched) that is the lifters and you are experiencing the infamous lifter tick.

No need to fear it is completely normal for them to do so.

One thing you can try is a product called SeaFoam, its supposed to help clean the lifters out.

I had it before, and I was worried about using SeaFoam so I decided to try something else. I switched to Royal Purple 10W-30 Motor oil. Worked like a charm. I would try doing that in spite of your recent oil change.

I changed my oil with mobil 1 and still had the ticking, I then switched to Royal Purple, and a week after that, things had cleaned up a bit and there is no more tick.

This would be my first suggestion to you.
