Question How can you wire so fog lights to come on just with the switch

My foglights come on when the car is started (Canadian models)...so how can I rewire them to come on with just the foglight switch only?

Where do you find the foglight relay plug? It wasn't clear from the directions. (I have a 95 vr4)

thanx

You might want to get someone to help you with this.

Excerpts from the site's instructions:

Quote:
* This part takes you under the hood. Locate the relay box on the passenger side in the front.

and

* Remove the relays marked FOG and TAIL.
That's about as good as you can get without pics (sorry, no digital camera). I don't want to sound lke an ass but if you can't find the fog light relay, perhaps you shouldn't be rewirng things without experienced help. This goes for everyone, not just in your situation.

The step-by-step mods on this and other sites are great but they all assume you've got a basic familiarity with the procedure you're about to undertake.

5: Do the same as step 4 for the fog light relay.
6: Replace fuse box cover.
7: Close hood.

Results: Now when you turn on your parking lights, your fog lights will turn on.
Good in theory but it didn't work in my practice. I used the smallest guage wire I had - one wire of some two wire speaker wire. It's pretty friggin small...

Uh, John,

There are four terminals in the fog light relay. I don't trust directions which say to "stick one end of the wire into one of the terminals". I would expect that each of those four terminals does something different, ie, one is +12volts, one is ground etc... I wouldn't want to just stick a wire 'whereever' and shove the other end in the tail light relay 'whereever' and create a devastating electrical short. I just don't have the wiring diagrams and was wondering if someone could provide more specific wiring information so people don't mess around with what they don't know and cause expensive damage to other indirectly connected wiring harnesses/modules. How about saying, 'use a wire to bridge the 12v lead of the fog light relay to the 12v lead of the tail light relay' if that's how it really works.

Thanks

John's directions are great, but yes, I would recommend a little bit of experience with the wiring in the car first. This was my first attempt and it works perfectly except:

1) I lost the "PWR" indicator (automatics only, of course) on the tach face

2) I lost the light in the rear wiper switch

Two things to remember concerning the diagrams:

1) For the wiring harness/plug, the diagram is a view if you are looking at the opposite side from where the wires go in.

2) For the relay diagram, remember that it is a TOP view. I did mine from the bottom without removing the relays so it took me a little bit before I figured out that I needed to flip the diagram in my mind

John: Do you know if my problems are possibly because of a fuse or is it something more complicated? Could it possibly be the bulbs? Also, could you post the directions for getting the fogs off of the headlight fuse so the fogs and highs can be used together without worry?
