There are already low mile 1g's in Canada. He wants to covert to a stealth body, which will cost at least an additional 2k. He's better off buying a low mile 1g GTO TT and buying stealth parts here. . Paying say 7k+ just to spend another 3k in unnecessary body work = foolish considering his whole reason for importing one is to save money. If he were keeping the car stock, you'd be right. Since he wants to customize it, I can't say I agree. Most of the people in this thread stating that it isn't worth it are saying so because it isn't cost effective. Reading is indeed fundamental.

P.S. Has anyone else factored in that 1993 was the first year of the projection headlights (MKII)? GTO production began in 1990 remember? So if it is a 2nd gen you want Dev....
Hey Guys,

After doing some thinking and further research, I've come to the decision that I'm probably not going to do the conversion. maybe further on down the road, but not just yet. It's a lot of time and money that could be put into making it faster, and we all know that's more important .

As far as the 1993 MKII thing is concerned, I'm not quite sure what you mean. The 93 3S (which I own) was the 1st Gen, with the pop ups and all. The Second Gen (projectors) started with the 1994 MY (for all three). Production on the Gen 2 GTO started in July of 1993, meanining they will be legal here in July of 08. Hence, the waiting impatiently.

I could be wrong about that, so please, correct me if necessary, but that's what I've figured so far.

Good luck getting your hands one....its not impossible to find one in Japan....but its VERY hard! I have had my eye on getting one for about a year now and have only come across two or three at the auction house!

R33 skylines should start to appear (legally) sometime this summer, as well as MKIV twin turbo supras. The supras are pretty damn expensive though since so many people in the UK steal them up from Japan apparently...
As of the end of this year Canada will require that all cars being imported will have to be 25 years or older....the 15 year rule is out the door as of October I believe....so order it NOW!

Please don't spew propaganda like that around without some serious facts to back such a statement up. Every forum seems to have users that put out different random dates with no data to qualify their statements.

Transport Canada has really backed off on this area since there is no solid data on safety reasons to prevent importing of overseas vehicles. My personal thought is that these rules are to protect Detroit as much as possible, but I digress. The UK does quite well with a 5 year rule, and I'd like to see North America adopt a similar rule....

ivoac.ca :: Imported Vehicles Owners Association of Canada <-- great resource for overseas importing of cars to Canada. They're really organized, with lawyers and all, and have really moved away from trying to protect the 15 year law to trying to have it revoked altogether.

everything in the interior of a GTO is pretty much a mirror image of the 3000GT.

Ie: pattern for shift boot is backwards, pattern for ebrake handle is backwards, dash contours are completely backwards (including dash vents, etc)... pretty much everything is the exact reverse, so it would not shock me if the seat patterns were as well... even if they're similar, a USDM replacement leather would look terrible wrapped over a JDM seat.

I ran into this when USDM shift boot+ebrake boot arrived at my house, luckily was replaced at no cost...

It is correct, a car is legal to be shipped to Canada exactly 15 years after the date it rolled off the production line. I didn't realize they started building 94's so early.... I guess that would make sense though! Sorry for the confusion on that... although really, I like the 1G rear a lot more than the 2G...
