Has anybody ever had the flex pipes in the exhaust replaced? I just got quoted at least 150 to change the front one out. That sounded really high to me for a 2" long section. I thought it would be cheaper to fix it than to buy an after market downpipe. If I left the main cat in place would the car pass inspection with an after market downpipe? Any tips for me?

As far as replacing the flex section, I'd talk to a couple of other shops, I'd suspect it to be more in the 100 dollar range. This is a pretty common repair as many people have the flex section rust out over time.

On my R/T N/A I bought $99 ebay downpipe and it went on perfect with no issues. This is the pipe with the flex section in it as well and not the solid one. The only issue is that sometimes the bolts on the manny's may be froze and need to be torced off. I had mine trown on for $50 at a backwoods shop. They said they had no issues with installing it but they did have to torce the bolts off which can be an issue if you have any leaks.
