There are 3 separate pieces to your exhaust system. The downpipe that connects off the manifolds, the cat, and the catback exhaust. Its up to you what you want done. If a shop can fab up a downpipe for cheap and will eliminate the cat then I would say got for it. The catback exhaust is what is most commonly changed out w/ custom exhausts.

I would say talk to the shop. My guess is that every one is diffrent in wether they include what you need in the price or not. 200 dollars for custom exhaust sounds like just labor to me, but then again I dont know how good their work is.

so far i have gotten 2 quotes from 2 different people (over the phone for cat back) and they both were in the 200 range. once i get this cat-back installed, can i always go back and have the test pipe and down pipe added? am i going to notice a difference with tone or performance with just teh cat-back?

what shop are you talking about? i say get a custom catback from them. get a maximal performance test pipe for 40 shipped and a 3sx downpipe for 200-300 but i think i am biased a lil

im in red bank, nj. one place was a meineke (sp*) and the other was a local brakes and mufflers shop. im trying to stay fairly cheap so the test pipe sounds good price wise but what are the gains like with a catback plus a test pipe as opposed to a catback, downpipe and test pipe? and would it still be worth my time to do it all without the downpipe? at least for a few months? maybe a year?

I still have the factory downpipe on mine. I had my exhaust done a little bit ago, from the cat back. xP I don't really see why they can't go back in and modify it down the road, if thats what you want, especially if it is a good shop.
I would suggest getting just the cat back, with a test pipe. xP It is pretty cheap, mine was 250, but it was at the best place in the state, so it was worth it.

cat back will be mostly for sound, if you do the full system, dp and test pipe is when you will feel the difference. and how big piping are you gonna go with? is that included in the price. and its almost a given, but make sure the place does mandrel bends, if its crush bending . . . run away
