Default Do I need a datalogger & turbo timer?

Hey everyone, I just purchased a vr-4 bout a week ago. Took it to the mechanic and got the 120k maintenance done. I have yet to do some pressure testing.

I'd be using this car primarily just for work. I work about 8 miles (roundtrip). I definitely don't intend to go tuning w/this car, take it to the tracks, or do anything hardcore. I'd probably use it like 2-3 days weekly. So is it necessary to get a data logger?

How about a turbo timer? Is that necessary? If not, is there a general rule that you guys use (from experience) before turning off the engine? Like if I spent about one hour driving, do I have to wait in idle for like 10 mins before turning the car off?

Should I decide to do any mods, like intake, intercooling, bov, and exhaust upgrades(these are just for show & sound..no hardcore racing), would these items--datalogger & turbo timer--then be necessary?

Turbo timer isnt 100% necessary.

The rule of thumb has more to do with how hard you run the car, not how long. If you only have an 4 mile trip to work then you probably wont be running it hard. If you do boost it, let it idle for a good 3 minutes before you get out.

Now if you just are easy on the car and dont boost it 30 seconds is plenty.

If you are on a longer trip and run the car hard just take it easy the last few miles and the 30 second rule can still apply.

A turbo timer will just make it to where you dont have to sit in the car and let it idle. You can walk away with it still running. A press of the clutch or brake will kill the car if the turbo timer is controlling it.

The datalogger is also not 100% necessary if you're just using the car for commuting and have no plans to tune it. It's still a good idea to have one since they can give you so much useful information that can help you narrow down problems if something stops working right on the car.

As for the turbo timer like steathlee said, it's not really necessary just remember to let the car idle for a couple of minutes before you turn it off when you've been running the car hard.
