Default check engine light? 94 TT

So im not new, but i am to this car, and 2nd gens.

I was driving to work the other day, and my check engine light just popped on... i dont feel any difference in the way the car drives, or runs. Idk what it is.
The car is a 94 TT cali spec. Question is how do i figure it out since its a hybrid and has obd II but wont read on the autozone check engine light thing.
Also on my 92 TT when i am cruising at 40 in 4th gear after about 2 miles the engine light will come on. then after about and hour of driving goes away... idk what it is.

any help would be appreciated.

joel

ZEROryan08 is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Re: check engine light? 94 TT

It really could be anything. I had a 96 cali spec and there was this dry rotted vac. line on the EGR valve that ALWAYS came undone from the engine flexing, which would throw codes. I just replaced that line and VOILA! like i said, there's so many codes theres really no telling...

On the 94 you can check codes with a hybrid datalogger which is a good thing to have anyway since it can give you a lot of other good information about what the cars doing. I also think there's a way that you can short 2 pins and have it blink the codes out, but hopefully somebody else can chime in with more experience on this.

On the 92 you can check the codes easily using this method on stealth316.

EDIT: Check out this thread, it contains some information about shorting the pin to ground.

There's a couple of different options that I'm aware of (there might be others that I'm not familiar with)

1.) HHH (hand held halo)
2.) Mirage Corp.

I've dealt with the Mirage Corp one before and I know it's certainly a quality product. I've never actually dealt with the HHH, but I've heard good things about it.

As far as I'm aware there's no free software that can be used to datalog the hybrid ECU.

http://mmcdlogger.sourceforge.net/ lists 94 as a year it works with.

It will NOT work on a 94. 94's used the hybrid ECU and MMCD is not equipped to work with the hybrid ECU.
