Cool Changing gears method

I seem to be giving my passengers whiplash . When I accelerate off the mark up until 4 gear there head is always going forward when I put my foot on the clutch. is this my gear change method or just good old gforces in action??

gforce. what do you expect to happen when you're accelerating at a decent rate and then just stop accelerating all of a sudden?

but the car still moves...j/k

I always worry about that, one of my passengers used to say "it's a good ab workout" But the only way to do it smooth without the bobbing passengers is to slow down your acceleration. Even in an automatic car people will bob. It's just not as obvious..

they "bob" because they're not expecting the change, wheras you are, plus you have the steering wheel to hold on to and brace yourself.

<-------> constant velocity = zero acceleration

well if you dont want them to bob, then drive a slow car.

If they start complaining about the bobbing then just drive really hard so then normal driving isnt as bad

they still bob. Get 5 point harnesses for all your seats. That'll keep um still.

Coat passenger headrest with nice layer of gum. Keep prybar in trunk to help passenger out of car when destination is reached. (If desired, keep wigs with prybar as a courtesy item for passengers)

On a more serious note, if the problem is during normal driving and not while racing, just before you shift, back off the gas gently before you begin to push in the clutch. The head bob is caused by an abrupt change from acceleration, to no acceleration while shifting, if you decrease the acceleration just before shifting and do it smoothly, there will be less passenger head bob. This is technique #1 from Chapter 1 "How to drive with either a hot date or your grandmother in the car" in my book "Things They Don't Teach You In Driver's Ed". Chapter 2 is "How to impress a hot date or your friends with the car's performance". Chapter 3 is "How to impress a hot date or your friends with your driving skill". Chapter 4 is "Making full use of a hot date's excitement from Chapters 2 & 3". Chapter 5, the most important one, "How not to end up in the morgue, hospital or jail while trying chapters 2 and 3" is still being added to.

*Note* - buy bobble head doll and use for training purposes as a model head bobbing passenger. Also, refrain from playing Haddaway's "What is Love" to prevent unnecessary head bobbing (rumoured to cut down on unnecessary passenger window replacement).

P.S. the book was a j/k, so don't ask me how to get a copy.
