Default Brake Component Prices

Guys,

I'm lost here...

I have to replace my rear brakes on me 92 Stealth R/T.

I was going to do them myself with a friend to save money but it seems like everywhere I go for a quote on parts only, they cost more than the dealer...

The dealer is quoting me the following, confirmed twice, and I have it in writing...

rear brake pads & rotors..... $163 parts
labour...... 2 hours @ 96hr ..... $192

rear calipers.... $282
labour...... .5 hr @ 96hr..... $48

I checked the group buys, the discount sites, etc - and they all are either the same price or more for the parts.

Why is this???

J

First, why are you pricing out calipers? Did yours go bad somehow?

Second, have you called Rockville Mitsubishi or gone on Cherry Hill's website to price it out?

Wow thats pricey, I redid my entire braking system and upgraded to rebuilt TT calipers and SS lines and brembo drilled rotors, and the TT knuckle for $600. You should look around some more for sure.

Try a local store, Autozone, Napa, Advanced Auto Parts, Carquest, whatever. My guess is you're looking at the group buys and comparing prices for high performance aftermarket parts to oem, and that's why they're higher. Carbotech brake pads are going to cost quite a bit more than mitsu ones, but they'll also outperform it by a large margin.

I bought rebuild kits for rear n/a calipers from a parts store last year for about $8/ea., and they had the pistons for an extra $20/ea. O'Reilly Auto Parts

Or, if you'd rather not rebuild them yourself, they had reman. calipers for about $90/ea. Autozone

I got 2 new rear rotors for $25/ea. Advanced Auto Parts

The car's owner had purchased some cheap pads from autozone for $10-$15.

Try comparing apples to apples and prices should drop. Figure out what you want, what you're willing to spend, and how much of the work you want to do, and then decide upon the appropriate route.

3sx performance has a good selection on replacement "parts" for your breaking system...

one of my calipers is seized (drivers side) and I need it fixed before I can get the car safety'd.

I don't need "racing" brakes. OEM would suffice.

I checked Rockville... they dont ship to Canada.

Cherry does, but their prices are the same as the place im buying from... except i have to pay shipping and return the cores...

Checking out these guys on eBay...

eBay Store – R1Concepts: Search results for stealth.

Anyone have experience with them? Prices look good, and they ship to Canada.

R1 Concepts is the name.
