92 stealth tt.. I think my ecu took a crap on me

I bought my car a few months ago. It was running very good then last month my car started bucking and idling rough but it would only do it for a minute or two and then be fine... Now it's rough idle and runs on only 4 cylinders.. I did the good old volt meter to check ecu codes.. I got a 53 no fire on 3&6, ptu bad, check wire harness... I opens the ecu and found no blown caps just one that was loose. So I threw some soldier on it. Fixed the car for about 30seconds and it went back to shit. At the same time I notice the ecu had already been remand. Now even when I put new caps in the ecu the car still runs like shit.

Is there anyone in Illinois that has a known good ecu that I could borrow.i could pay alittle money to rent it.

Any other help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

if it's only running on 4 cylinders and a 53 code is in fact a bad PTU, troubleshoot the PTU. A bad PTU will do exactly that, shut down one or more coils. While your're at it, troubleshoot the coils. Sounds like you have a manual so troubleshooting these components is cake.

Lots of guys here immediately fault the ECU when the car starts acting up as sort of a catch-all. Yes, the caps go bad especially on 1st gens, but you said yours was a reman. Trust the code.

I put a new ptu on the car.. It stoped the jumping tach but still no fire on 3&6

i know auto zone and them cant check the ignition coontrol module so how do u check?... ive been hearing if alternater is on ikts way out can have same conditions.. my rt turbo is doing same.... bucking popping under throttle and idle is fine

It sure will. With the alt on its way out, batt voltage drops and current flow to the fuel pump drops. The car leans out under load, and runs fine at idle.

if you have to get another ecu, do a search on here for ecu rebuilds there is a guy named eric that does it cheap...... one of the few exceptions for you get what you pay for...he is really good

Take the module out, and open it up. Take a picture and put it up. 9 times out of 10, its going to be swollen capacitors or popped caps. Look for bulging capacitors... PM me if assistance is needed, extremely cheap (talking cents) fix if you know how to solder.

did you have alternater checked.. check that battery too... skeptical bout ecu being bad.. had my share screwin stuff up.. never had an ecu go bad not once
