In the past I've owned a 94 SL, but I am planning on picking up a 93 VR4 with a 92 motor. The body has 90k on it and the motor has 70k. I was just wondering what are some common problems with the motor/car at this point.
Mods are: HKS SSQV BOV Full HKS Exhaust BTW the 60k service has been done. Here are some pics. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

When "should" the turbo's be rebuilt? Common problems around 70k miles? Whats the difference between 18 spline and 25 spline transmission besides the fact that one is stronger. Thanks. |

It depends what month the 92 engine was made. It could either be 2-bolt cast crank, or 4 bolt forged crank. Then your OS could either be 18 spline or 25 spline.
You want the latter, it's much stronger. At 70k miles with a 60k done, watch out for blue smoke. Blue smoke under boost means the turbos are dying, blue smoke at / after idle mean the VSS are going. Make sure the oil pressure is good (i.e. above the lower big tick all the time), make sure the steering rack isn't leaking, all the normal stuff. Feel for grinding tranny, etc. |

No problem man. To check your date of make, grab the VIN and run it through a VIN info program. Let me try to find one for you here.
