Default 4 wheel steering

The only vehicles advertised locally with 4 wheel steering is the 3000gt VR, does the Stealth TT also come with that option. It seems like a nice option is it trouble prone? If the car is heavily modified can it handle the stress?

Personally I find it to be a bit of a gimmick, and for me, found it made me think the car was more unstable if I tried to drive it quicker.

For example, if I felt the back step out, I'd try to steer into it to correct it(out of driving habit) but the 4WS had tried to correct it to and just didn't make it feel like a "drivers" car.

I am sure some people love it, but it's not for me.

Pro's of removing it:
  • Your car will be 40lbs lighter
  • Less stress/slight more BHP from the engine as not having to contstantly drive the oil pumps
  • Another thing less to go wrong

Con's:

?

IIRC the Stealth TTs had 4WS with the exception of the 96, if anyone can correct me feel free.

Is there a way I can look to see if it has 4ws, sometimes the owners aren't sure of the options on their vehicles.

It's been a while since I fired mine up but I think there is a light that will come on when you turn the key to run for the bulb check that says something about 4WS oil.

Yeah, correct.

It says "4WS Oil" in red.

91-94 stealth TTs had AWS.
95-96 TTs do not.

Easiest way to check is to look at the chassis code on the firewall.
Z16A - AWD AWS chassis
Z15A - AWD non-AWS chassis
Z11A - FWD chassis

As for pros and cons, road race guys are split about 50-50 on its usefulness. I didn't like it much (and removed it), but a lot of people find that it gives them greater stability and higher speeds at turn-in. If you search for AWS and user Erron Spalsbury, you'll pull up several threads in which he explains why he likes it, his results, etc.
