I'm probably doing a bit more than necessary, and a lot more than the dealership would do for a typical 120k. Under the advice of a local guy, I ordered the above parts as he's doing the work and this list is what he suggested.

Hydraulic timing belt tensioner
Timing belt
Timing belt idler pulley
Timing belt tensioner pulley
water pump, o-ring and gasket ($299 for above parts bundle)
Oil return line gaskets -- part# MR258477 $1.05 each
oil pump w/front main seal ($140 for oil pump and oil pump gasket)
oil pump gasket
oil pump pick-up tube and gasket
oil filter assmembly gasket
oil coler bypass valve -- part# MD356695 $24.47
main bearings, rod bearings, thrust bearings (full sets)
camshaft seals -- part# MD152603 $6.85 each
valve stem seals -- part# MD307343 $3.34 each
valve cover gaskets -- part# MD186786 $14.06 each
spark plug gaskets -- part# MD186787 $4.04 each
throttle body gasket -- part# MD180361 $1.78
intake manifold plenum gasket -- part# MD143791 $6.70
rear turbo intercooler pipe o-ring -- part# MD090788 $3.66
turbo feed line copper crush washers
oil cooler line copper crush washers

$871 shipped for all that, not bad. I may do accessory belts when the time comes, but they look to be pretty new, so I didn't bother to order them.

Also got a nice EGR block off kit that will be installed at the same time.
You missed rear main seal and rear camshaft seals Also, if your engine is still in the car how did you know which main bearings to buy? You have to drop the pan and look at the crank and engine in order to figure out which ones you'll need. There are 4 different sets for our engines.

Also, be aware that there are 2 part numbers for VSS, one for the intake and one for the exhaust. Rockville does not know that, they sold me the same ones for both. They are different color (brown and green). I had to get them locally which stalled my installation.

I just ordered everything on your list minus bearings and timing belt, but with above seals. I am getting main bearings once I drop the pan. I also recommend inspecting/replacing motor mounts at the same time.

I bought the bearings based on the recommendation of the guy who is doing my motor work. He's done 12 or so 120k jobs so everything I ordered was his standard 120k list.

Interesting that someone mentioned the valve stem seals being different between intake and exhaust.

The gasket kit I got from Mitsubishi had 24 seals, but only 14 of them would actually fit. The others don't. No color or design difference to any of them, like what the service manual states. I ended up needing a bunch more seals to make up for what the Japanese didn't get right with their gasket kit, so I bought them aftermarket. They were all the same as well. I am well aware of service manuals for several different engines that state the seals are different, but I have yet to put together an engine where the replacement seals aren't identical intake & exhaust. Originally, they were probably different, but I think everyone determined that two differently designed seals is unnecessary.

I thought they were all the same as well when I bought them. However, a friend of mine who is a mech for Mitsu told me that they are different between intake and exhaust. He was the one who help me with the install on a weekend. We had to wait till Monday to get them from the dealership. The only difference I could see between intake and exhaust VSS was the color, so it might be OK to use the same seal for everything. Has anyone checked CAPS for VSS?

scrapiron7, I hope you got the right main bearings. If not, you'll have a problem. When you drop the pan look for marks on the crank and on the engine block. Or, you can compare the color of old bearings and new ones. It's in the rebuild manual. If your friend's done this before he should know what I am talking about. You can also search here, they are many threads discussing this.

Damn, I bought and installed valve stem seals from Rockville but haven't noticed any problems though. Do you think this is something to worry about? I believe the ones I installed were green and they all fit fine.

I have an automotive engine theory book around here that talks about why there are different seals for intake vs exhaust. It is in the design of the seal's mating surface with the valve itself. Because the intake side sees mostly vacuum in the cylinders, the seal is designed to stop oil in that direction, while the exhaust ones, which see pressure, wants oil to get past it. It was something like that. I cannot remember. I'd have to read it again.

But, it may have been determined by now that regulating oil to the valve gides lik that is no big deal.

You dont have to replace all of that stuff, but at least change the water pump, timing belt, tensioner, and I did all the pulleys too because they are pretty cheap and easy to change anyway (and you never know when the bearings could go)

but its something you def need to plan for, VERY importante.

Mine should be here next week from Rockville. It will be interesting to see what color mine are.

All of my VSS are the brown ones, but they should work fine.

Also noticed my new main bearings have a pink color mark on them. I gave them my VIN for a 93, but I think I may order another set of 92 mains just to make sure we have the right ones on hand for sure.
