Converted RT/TT=VR4
|
Well I did a thorough search on the subject and did not get the answers I wanted so im doing a step by step write up as I do the conversion. I wanted a VR4 from the begining but got a great deal on my 94 rt/tt. So here goes. The first thing you will need are all the 3kgt parts, I got alot of mis-match parts because i'm painting the car anyway, Tail caps, center garnish, tail lights, rear wing from base model, rear bumper, wiring harness. First thing I did was remove all the factory 2nd gen stealth stuff from the rear. Clean the back of the car to remove 10 lbs of dirt and rocks. Then gather some tools. You need a drill with a spot weld removal bit
(harbor frieght $5.00) a 1/8" drill bit, a gas mig welder, hole saw. If you dont have all this stuff as I do then its a good time to make friends with someone who does. Here is the page at car domain i have all the pics atace_mechanic71's 1994 Dodge Stealth on CarDomain - Page 9 ![]() ![]() ![]() As you can see from the pictures you have to drill out the spot welds on all three pieces in order to relocate them about 2 inches lower. Before you take the spot weld remover to the welds drill all the welds with the 1/8" drill bit so it has something to center itself in. Careful not to drill too deep, or you will be filling alot of holes with the welder. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is the piece that was removed in order to lower it about an inch and a half to two inches. Its easier to bolt the tail light cap to the car then tack weld the bracket in place.

Ok, I bolted on the tail light caps so I could bolt on the metal pieces I needed to weld on.
![]() ![]() Marked where the bracket goes then pulled it off in order to grind down the paint to weld. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Ground down the paint and started welding, after which I primered over the bare metal. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by ace_mechanic71 : 07-11-2008 at 09:28 PM. |

All done welding. You have to bolt on the body parts at each step to ensure things line up right before you weld up the brackets. I got lucky and did not have to remove and reweld things because i took my time. You can do all of this in a day, now that you know how involved it is. Over all its wasnt that bad, just takes patience, and having the right tools.
![]() ![]() Here are some pics of the ongoing conversion, I have everything except the 2nd gen 3kgt sideskirts. All the stealth parts are going to a friend of mine. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by ace_mechanic71 : 07-11-2008 at 09:35 PM. |
