Default Rear bumper project

My back bumper was in crappy shape. The paint was past help, and my friends brother backed into me without me knowing. Left a nice crease in the plastic, and dented the hatch.

So I decided to take it off. Bad choice.

Here is my old man and I working on the top part

I got a few bolts out but most of them sheared right off. Ended up drilling out about 10 bolts and running a tap through. They are all M6-1.00 bolts.

Pretty sad

I guess it was good we took it off, though. Old license plate bracket.

Beyond repair, so I fabbed another one out of galvanized sheet metal.

Getting the crease out was tricky. It's in an area you can't put Bondo on(acutally you want to avoid bondo on plastic period.) Lucky for us, with application of heat it is pliable.

I got a heat gun on the low setting and heated up the backside gradually. Plastic sucks at conducting heat so be careful. I put on a oven mitt and started rubbing on both sides. Eventually after 10 minutes I got the crease blended back in. It's pretty darn good but you can still see a small dimple where it used to be.

Primer.

Single stage acrylic enamel.

Found this guy while I was looking for an air drill
YouTube - mouse in a bucket

Got a 99 garnish.

All in all it was a major pain in the ass, if you just want to paint, then leave things on unless you want a project, or your car has never seen salt.

any questions, ask now before I forget everything

No you don't want to use bondo on a bumper cover, but they do make a flexible resin that does the job.
