man go to this website and look at these kits they are 175 for the whole kit and thats all the liquids you need to paint a car. get you a 25 gallon compressor and a auto paint gun for 100.00 bucks masking tape and a roll of plastic sheet. get a garage and paint it yourseef it not hard and i can walk you step by step. all together you will prob spend like 800 on materials.
trust i try not to pay shops because they try to do lots of culo. ![]() |

that's right. because even if you get it painted--it could never possibly orange peel.
![]() there's a reason i'd pay a professional. there's a reason why OCC, WCC, unique whips, etc---they ALL have paint guys do their painting. it's a difficult skill to master--and you need it done RIGHT. mastering the mechanics of a 3/s seems like chump change compared to mastering the art of automotive painting. |

problem is i'm military and in the dorms, i have no place to paint it. I want it done correctly also, i have no experience painting and i don't want to paying 200 dollars a day to paint and repaint to get a decent paint job. I want this to be a clean job. I would pay a person to do it if they were willing and can do a decent job instead of a shop. As it sits the lack of place and experience really put me at shops mercy. I can't even wield inside our auto hobby center which means any custom jobs that require wielding i have to get a shop to do. I can run down to Utah and get a friends shop to do it for cheaper, but work keeps denying my leave. So right now i am just settling for a simple design on the side, or just keeping it stock. i have better plans with 8k. I'm kind of lost I hate this purple color lol

sorry guys their are techniques to getting fisheyes and orange peel out. Where are you located i would do it if you were close. Just to show you how easy it would be to get a great paint job with just the minimum. im about to two tone my 3s ill post pics when i paint it and ill see if i have some before and after pics that i have of cars i have painted. its not hard if you have a little knowledge and dont care to go through trial and error.

I had my red GT painted by a car painter who did it as a side job. His shop would have charged $7k. He did it for $3500 at his home garage (full paint shop at home). I removed all plastic panels, trim and bumpers. He sanded, filled small dings, primed, triple based and 4 clear coats. I re-assembled the freshly painted parts I removed from the car. I also bought the paint.

funny i ran across this thread as i am about to start one which covers me and my buddy doing my car. my car is dark green metallic at the moment, but was resprayed to that by previous owner. so im getting the car redone to the factory emerald green pearl. i payed my buddy with 800 bones worth of new tools and bought all of the prep materials and paint myself; which ran me about 1500.(house of kolor is not cheap) we are doing it in his dads garage, pulling off all the panels, getting all the dents and dings, then doing a nice three stager. he is teaching me along the way which is nice. door jambs and engine is just getting cleaned and a nice once over since im keeping the car green. good luck on whatever you do and shop around; you can find great deals out there. personally i'd keep your stock color and just go over the whole exterior as i am. your color is rare and i think it looks great on our cars.
P.S. if anyone wishes to keep track; i'm starting the thread tonight and will post up the progressive pictures in the next day or so.
