Right on well lets give him the information necessary to make that decision on his own since its his time/money. I dont think its all that pointless. Its definitely something decently different. Ive been to 5 national gatherings and there hasnt been a right hand drive 3S there that i can remember. So a right hand drive stealth would be pretty cool.

I would possibly consider buying a decent 1g stealth R/T that has a bad engine or something. Then picking up an entire front clip from japan that has the RHD components. then you wouldnt have to deal with the importing issue but you would have considerable more work to do.

hell, ill give him some r/t sail panels for the cost of shipping just to help on the project.

I concur, if he is going to make a decision that most would consider less than wise, we might as well help him out

yeah I would not do a project like this if you plan on getting your money back out of it in the future. Modifying a car is rarely an investment especially in this forum. But you could do this project on a budget if you do the work yourself and take your time to find parts cheaply. But as long as your making it so you can enjoy it and thats what you want then the time and cost are irrevelant.

Hey guys,

Thanks for (most) of the responses! Like I said before, I'm just tossing around ideas; I haven't decided anything yet.

I've reached a point in my life now, where I have a good career, with a good salary, no wife, no kids, and I'd like to have some fun. I LOVE cars, especially mine, I've got a 93 base Stealth. Unfortunately, it's the worst combination of colour, engine and transmission (White, SOHC, and Auto, respectively). The engine on mine is leaking/burning oil, the cam seals are shot. It'll cost me pretty much just as much for me to replace the engine as it would to get something new, so I'd like to trade up.

I've been looking into a GTO, because they tend to be in much better shape, and with much lower miles than any 3000gt or Stealth. (Just as a reminder, I am Canadian, and can drive then here legally)

Just as a few examples:
91 GTO TT, already in Canada, with 119K kms(73K mi) taxes in, $7900 CDN
92 GTO TT, an hour away from me, 91KM (56 mi) taxes in, $7741 CDN!

I'd have to pay 3 times as much to get a 3000GT or Stealth in that good of shape. The JDM just seems to be the smarter way to go.

As far as the GTO-Stealth swap is concerned, it seems to be a bit more involved than just a few panel swaps, so I doubt I'm going to go that route.

I do really appreciate all the input, and would love any more insight that you guys have.

Thanks!

-Devan
