Default First Gen 3000gt to Stealth with 99 Bumper

Yea, thats right.. just like it says

Anyway.. I have a 93 VR4 that I want to put a 99 bumper on... yes easy to do, however, I HATE the way it looks on the first gen 3000gt, but LOVE the way it looks on a first gen Stealth. When looking on Deftracing and seeing the one maroon colored Stealth with a 99 bumper, I fell in love with it. So my question here is, I want to swap my headlights, snake eyes, and turn signals all over to Stealth headlights, snake eyes, and turn signals. First off, how easy would this be to do? Do I have to change the the headlight? or do I just change the snake eye/turn signal collaboration? Second off, what bumper do I go with then, does a 2g (94-98) bumper fit with the Stealth headlights.. is it custom done? Its obvious that the first gen 99 bumper won't fit on a Stealth because of the turn signals, but "looks" like it would work with a 2g 99 bumper... any thoughts? anybody with a first gen stealth do this?

thanks.

I think you could just cut the tab piece off of the headlight bucket that holds the 3kgt snake eyes on and the RT snake eyes would fit perfectly. This is what I did to my ES and it looks like the 3kGT may be the same from other pics I have seen.

Not sure on which bumper, but that 99 style in the picture is HOT.

My concern is with the actual bumper itself fitting around the headlights... the one made for the 91-93 3000gt isnt made for the Stealth, since the turn signals are different, but they look more like what would fit the 94-98 3000gts (as far as the 99 bumper) So If I swap the snake eyes/turn signals over to Stealth style, hopefully a 94-98 gen2 99 bumper would fit right around the snake eyes/turn signals... like in the first pic.

I emailed DeftRacing and the guy I talked to wasn't sure about how that car in the pic was done, but he kind of agreed with my theory..

Just to chime in, from my understanding the 3sx bumper was designed off the stealth. So, it would required a little bit fabbing for 3kgt but not much and then again it depends on the body shop skills. Since that pic was taking I added the fog lights (similiar to Steve 3sx owner) so it looks more aggressive. I also purschase the 99 kaze lip but once I get the car back for 3sx I'll put it in the shop and shall post pic's later. Oh i also had the same idea as yourself about converting but that's was way to expensive. Well good luck in your choose.

Excellent, I would love to see pics when done, maybe that will persuade me My only worry about price will be actually getting a bumper, not too worried about the price or procedure to change the headlights... anybody know if the actual popup headlight is the same on both 3000gt and stealth.. ie, will the snake eye/turn signals fit right around my stock popups? or do I have to change those too, over to Stealth?

thanks everybody! cant wait to start putting this together (or maybe go with that agressive look mister was talking about)

You guys REALLY need to get someone from 3SX to poke their heads into this thread I even post a link to their 99 front end page in my sig, since it's such a commonly requested item.

Good info in that FAQ from 3SX.. everything "LOOKS" like my theory is correct, I'm definitely all for having someone from 3SX give some insight here.

thanks!

The 1G 99 Fiberglass bumper was originally designed around a Base/ES Stealth, which actually uses the SAME pop-up covers (the black or colored panels on TOP of the popups) and the SAME flasher/snake-eyes lenses. The RT and TT lights obviously use different corner signals and snake-eyes (a single wrap-around unit) and actually have different shaped pop-up top covers, thought not a huge difference in shape, but they are different.

I know we have had some customers install the bumper on the RT body style, but have not received any pictures of the installation - process or finished product. But what they are doing is forgoing the RT corner/snakes and switching to the corners included with the bumper and either running the GT snakes or just simply leaving them off entirely and not running any - like the couople samples on our site listing 3SX Custom 99 Bumper 91-93 3000GT*-*Mitsubishi 3000GT*/*Dodge Stealth .

For the 1G RT style, you'd be honestly easier to install the factory 99 as it is already set up for an almost wrap-around style corner light - the bumper simply runs flat along the front side under the headlight to the fender where the 99 corner signal goes. Only difference would be the RT corner lights curve up at that back lower corner whereas the 99 corner light comes to a point. See the 4th column "side pix" here:

http://www.3sx.com/store/faq/99/index.asp

If you wanted to combine the 1G Fiberglass 99 bumper and the RT corner/snake lights, you'd have to have your body shop modify the bumper to mate with the lights, but looking at it, looks like they could just lop off the top outer portion where the turn signal goes and fit in the 1G RT corner/snake light assembly.

Hope this rambling helps!?
