ok im really getting pissed off. basically every muscle car owner i know is telling me that im an idiot for doing a tt swap on my 92 ds RT NA. EVERYBODY says that i wont even make it to the end of my street before the transmission blows and im out big $. My argument is this, if i can spin out in 1st and 2nd without blowing the trans, why would now spinning out in 1st or 2nd with a turbo hurt the transmission, if it can handle the stress of light throttle to WFO throttle why would a twin turbo swap blow it up. None of these people are too familiar with the 3S's however one is a dodge expert and swears that there is no way in hell the trans will hold. As far as i know the weakest part of the SL's and RT's is the traction and you will lose traction before any damage occurs. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated as this is my daily driver and if i blow it up i cant get to work.

ok i was reading half way thru your post and i just want to tell you taht you COULD blow the diff up if you dont install some sort of lsd or insert but if you want to go on the safe side go with a lsd and you will be ok.

2nd gear is weak in the FWD trans. Eventually, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow...but it will break.

my TT swap has been done for about a year now and my tranny just went. I had a Quaife LSD in it. I stripped 2nd gear pretty badly. But the tranny was not in great shape to begin with. I bought it used from a member with the Quaife already installed. I think the tranny had a lot more miles on it then what he claimed, seeing as how the folcrum was shot and the clutch fork was warped..
I had a spare FWD 5 Speed sitting around, so I sent it to Jack's and had a double synchro added for gears 1-4, a Quaife LSD installed and a 10% taller 5th gear. This is only a temporary setup until I get a AWD tranny and have enough money to have it rebuilt and have a LSD installed.

so what do you guys recommend, having a shop do "double syncros" or getting a "converted getrag"? i know my syncros are starting to go and so is my clutch so before i finish off the tt build i know i already got to do a new clutch but while im in there would recommend doing double syncros? also ive never heard of this concept, it literally like two syncros for each gear? how does that work? also where can i buy a converted gretag transmission, or is it just a VR4 trans. converted for fwd? I am defiantly no expert on drive train so any help would be appreciated.

yeah, go with a getrag. I'm even going to be switching within the next year or so. The only reason I didn't upgrade now was because I already had a spare FWD 5-speed laying around. I could have just put a getrag tranny in, but I would have to buy an AWD tranny, I would also need axels and I would need to have the VCU welded. So it would have been a lot of money up front to put a tranny in that wasn't even rebuilt and didn't have an LSD in.
When I finally put a getrag in it will be one that I had rebuilt and I will also have a LSD in it... But for you, I suggest going with an AWD... |

May be some help for you:
1991-93 3000gt and stealth twin turbos -5speed manual awd made by Getrag 1994-95 stealth tt and thru '99 vr4's: -6speed manual awd made by getrag all other years of non turbo stealth or 3000gt: -5speed fwd (not made by getrag)OR -4 speed automatic fwd (also non-getrag) I think the latter changed a little bit here and there, but I'm not sure, I never did much with the fwd models of these cars. Regardless, the common swap seems to be a 5 speed awd from an early 3/S since their older and seem to be in cheaper, easier supply.
