Troubleshooting Transmission

I have a 1998 Mitsubishi 3000gt base model with a 5 speed. I haven't had any problems with my car since I have owned it these last four years until recently. The car no longer moves forward or reverse of that matter. The engine runs fine and the clutch seems to have the same pedal feel and pressure. If I put it into gear it doesn't go anywhere and it doesnt stall either there is just a rotational grinding sound.

The problem started when I was driving to work and I stopped at a stop light and when the light turned green I had no traction and it just rolled through the stop light since I was on a downward slope. I got my car towed and I am willing and capable of working on it.

I am thinking it is a clutch problem but Im just bothered that it was working fine one second and the next it is broken. I have had a clutch fail in another car of mine but it starting slipping for awhile and gave me signs that the clutch was on its way out. I was hoping that there would be an inspection plate on this car but there doesn't seem to be.

I am just looking for some confirmation on the clutch before I get started working on it.

Obviously I am not there to look/listen, but it sounds as if you may have broken the center hub of the clutch disc. This would give you the results you describe, but it is possible you have other damage, say input shaft, but I would suspect the clutch hub first. Either way you're pulling the trans.
