Default Transmission shifting problems

I just bought a 1995 3000gt base with a transmission problem i was aware of. The car has an automatic transmission and goes through all 4 gears, but when i press the overdrive button on the car just revs when i give it gas. My mechanic hooked up a snap-on tranny tool to check for problems and said the switch was working properly. Is this a common problem with these cars and could it be an internal problem?

Actually, mines doing something like that. She drives fine w/ O/D off, but as soon as I turn my O/D on she slips like a mofo. I think my clutches are shot.

Yea no one can figure out what the problem is. My mechanic said a tranny flush and maybe changing the filter might fix it but I don't think it will at all, it just doesn't seem logical. I don't want to have to pay someone to rip the tranny out and diagnose the problem so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
