Default P1600 Code.. Details...?

Hey everyone.

I'm noticing a P1600 code on the 98 3KGT SL. p1600 is serial data code.

I can't find much detail on that. Can someone shed some light.

I have been having some tranny problems and I believe I'm due now for a rebuild. We've been nursing it along. A few days ago, I got the common "Bang" while decelerating and the trans is now in Limp Home mode.

I pulled the TCU to see if the caps were leaking just for the heck of it. and I just wanted to see if the Computer logged any codes (Not from the TCM, I know that has to be checked with something else).

I know there were no P1600 codes since I just has some issues replacing the Cali-spec downpipe / relocating oxygen sensors etc. I was getting some O2 codes from a bad O2 heater and I've been checking the codes to make sure they have not come back.

What the heck is the Serial Data code?? I'm guessing that's not causing my problem but I want to make sure before I yank this trans and run it down to IPT.

Thanks

Default Re: P1600 Code.. Details...?

P1600= Serial comunication Link Malfunction.
Probable causes:

-Faulty automatic transaxle control system.
-Broken or shorted comunication line between the ECM and the transaxle control module or the faulty contact of the connectors.
-Transaxle control module failed.
-ECM failed.

Smile Re: P1600 Code.. Details...?

Well that would most likely be too much of a coincidence then.

Thanks VERY MUCH for the reply. In all of my OBD-II "stuff" I couldn't seem to find any detailed info for the P1600 Code.

I may not have to pull this trans after all.

I have the TCM out now. Caps look fine but that's not really saying much.

Wouldn't a faulty ECM actually throw a code like many other OBD-II ECM's??

I'm going to track down wiring tomorrow. I feel it would be best to go that route before I yank the trans.

I'm guessing that the TCM would seem a logical first choice if the wiring looks ok. I'm guessing that with 112K on the car, it's only a matter of time before it craps out even if it is good. I guess I may as well start with the TCM.

Any other tips would be a huge help.
