I finished this swap last week. You actually dont need to leave in the TCU. I was worried i would have to but luckily nothing else runs through it. Easy enough. This thing took me forever but i really only worked on it for like 7 days. seriously if your thinking about doing a 5 speed swap do it. When i took the car down the road it felt muuuuch faster.

im in the middle of this mission right now (same reason ... shavings in the ATF, and my diff is leaking because my axels can be moved up and down about 1/8 of an inch)
and i got a donor car for free! ![]() what wiring mods did you have to do? what i mean is 1. reverse light wiring (did you need to change the plug/where is it on the auto?) 2. clutch depression switch 3. anything else? Thanks |

The reverse lights are a pain. If im right on a manual they are on the shifter and an ATX they are on the tranny. Im trying to build a little push switch so when the shifter is in place it hits it. The biggest thing is this peice you have to leave plugged in for the car to even start... ill take a picture of it later. I beleive it was bolted on the auto tranny and the shifter went through it. Basically tells the car its in park. I might take a look at the donor car to see if there is something from the reverse lights in there.... otherwise like i said im just gonna rig up something. HAvent worried about it yet though. Im just happy to be back on the road

i know that the reverse lights switch on the ATX and the MTX are both on the trans (or inside ... hooked up to god knows what plug on the ATX)
the MTX only has one plug on it ... which is definetly the reverse switch. i have both electrical and the chassis manuals so finding out which one it is on the ATX shouldnt be a problem. do you know if the ECU/TCU changes anything when you shift out of park? such as fuel mixture, or the idle control or anything else? or can i just leave all the plugs that go to the trans without any problems? thanks again -Luke |
