I just began doing a 5 speed swap on my 94 Base.
I have a 93 Stealth ES as the donor (also parting out) Im probably only going to work on this on the weekends. I figure ill take pictures of every step incase it will help people in the futureDay 1: Didn't really get much done. Jacked up the car pulled off the tires and removed a plastic cover in the wheel well. Also took off a headlight to do the robo mod. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Androcephalous : 01-10-2008 at 01:56 PM. |

Theres not really alot of sensors on the A/T so hopefully that will save me a wiring nightmare but who knows. I pulled out the tranny and then moved to the inside and removed the center console and the Automatic shifter. The whole thing is held down by a metal plate which will have to come off and jus replace it with the manual one. This looks like the hardest part because you gotta switch out the cables and the manual cables have a mount kinda thing under the dash... if i can't figure anything else out im gonna drill from the bottom and use a threader. Doesn't look to fun. The 5 speed swap is very possible but very annoying and im not even halfway there. Spent all weekend on it sorta. Im also dreading doing the pedal.
If your gonna do this find a buddy to help and get some booze. lol The only reason im doin this swap is 1. My tranny went out (filter kept getting clogged by metal shavings) 2. I love manual ![]() 3. Found a cheap parts car with only a few things missing I was just gonna sell my car with a bad tranny but noone would offer a decent price so why not keep it and make it how i want it IF you can't take auto i would urge you to do it. The feeling ill have when this is done will be the best... until something else fails haha |

I've had my car since 100k and it's around 120k now and it's fine. Probably hasn't has it's fluid changed until I got it either haha
I need to find a parts car bad =( http://speedfreakracing.net/faq_auto_manual_swap.htm That might help if you haven't already seen it.

I havent really worked on this much for the past few weeks. So heres what ive done... ive pulled all the automatic tranny stuff. On the Stealth i pulled the shifter, shifter cables, The pedals(brake and clutch) That was kind of annoying because i had to pull the drum thing off of the master cylinder on the brakes. The Clutch lines and cylinders are ready to come off just need to torch 1 bolt. The shifter cables look like theyre actually gonna be pretty easy. The only thing im worried about is makings the holes for the clutch pedal and doing the plugs. Last week if you asked me if doing a 5 speed swap is a good idea i would of told you hell no. But now it looks like this will be pretty easy. Really ive only worked on this for 3 days and im 3/4 the way done. MAKE SURE YOUR PARTS CAR IS GOOD. To the person who sold me the stealth(you know who you are) your about to see me on your doorstep with a baseball bat.
Also if anyone wants parts off my stealth just pm me with which ones you want. The engine turns over but i have no idea how good it is. |
