Default Driveshaft Problems

I have currently bought a 1992 3000GT VR4 and the u joints on the driveshaft are worn out. I found out that the joints are nonmarketable so you can'y buy them. So Im in need of a new drive shaft. The stock is a 3 piece shaft but the aftermarket ones are either 1 or 2 piece. I think its time to upgrade to a carbon fiber. However I dont know which to go with (1or 2 piece) and what are the advantages over one to the other. Please help e out with advice and recomandations. The more the better.

Thanks

PST estimates 10-15% of the cars that get the one piece CF Shaft will have problems with vibration at high speed. To date they have had no reports of vibration problems with their 2 piece CF Shaft. The one piece is a little cheaper and lighter than the two piece. I have the one piece and have had no vibration problems.

Hey thanks Doug I appreciate th advice.

I also have a nother question for anyone that could help me out. For a couple of months now MY 1992 VR4 misfires at times. For example sometimes it starts off fine and then I turn it of and try to start it up again and it misfires and at times dies. Sometimes it revs so low almost at 0 rmp and feels like its gonna die. Even if i give it gas it still doesnt feel the same. so when i rev it at times lest say i rev it to 3000rmp and let off the gas it will come down to about 1000rpm for a few seconds then goes down to about 700. Can anyone help me out?

thanks

What speeds has PST observed there being vibration at for the one-piece? Just curious since I'm looking at upgrading to a CFDS sometime soon and would like to know.

Also, there were problems with vibration when PST first released the two-piece shafts. Read about it somewhere on Stealth316. They've since redesigned the two-piece one with longer input shafts to alleviate this problem. Or so I've heard.

It varies with each car. Some have experienced problems at 60 mph others at 100+! Many time the vibration can be eliminated by rotating the position of the flange on the rear differential. In other cases some need to upgrade to the two piece.

I have not heard of any problems with the 2 piece shaft.

Erik Gross was one of the first to document the vibration problems with the 2-Piece setup. As I said before though, PST has since fixed this problem (at least to my knowledge).

And thanks for the info on the one-piece system. But does there seem to be a trend to the vibrations? (ie. 5-Speed or 6-Speed, build-date, brackets or braces on the transfer case, aftermarket rear LSD) I'd like to get the 1-piece since that would obviously be lighter and put more power through to the wheels, but I'm not going that route if it'll just end up killing my car.

Thanks guy for the help. I might just play it safe and go with the 2 piece for the extra $200. I will also take the car for a tune up and a general check because since I got the car last summer I didn't do a maintenance on it yet. Im hoping that should clear more or less some of the problems.

I have noticed quite a lot of things wrong with the car and from what I hear they are quite prone to problems. For example my rear spoiler is not working and I dont know whether the Tour/Sport is working because the lights don't come on on the dash. Also the radiator light in constantly on but I got it checked and it was fine. I was told it is more then likely some sort of sensor issue.
