Glad that I found this thread.

This has been an unadvertised service that I've provided. I had a bunch of good VCU's and I've been doing an exchange program with them. I've been trading people's bad VCU's + cash for the good ones.

I still have 2 left and hope to get some more before I run out.

SpeedfreakSteve, I *might* still have an unwelded VCU (dont think my dad has welded it yet) from my 6 speed if your interested in trading it for one of the bad ones. Nothing looks wrong with it and it has 67xxx miles on it. Let me know if your interested.

I should be getting my 5spd tranny by late this week, and will have a good vcu as well.

So to my knowledge (and correct me if i'm wrong please) the vcu is internal to the tranny. In order to get to it, do u just unbolt the tranny cover (passenger side) and its accessable from there? Also, to have it welded, can it just be taken out, taken to a shop, welded, and thrown back in there or does it have to be welded while in the tranny? SOrry i dont know much about this, but if its as easy as i've described, i could take my good one out, get a busted one from SFS and help an AWD guy out. Lemme know...

Yeah bro it's easy. There is a couple of threads you will find that myself and ES3000TT posted about pulling the VCU. After you do it once it's cake, especially if you have air tools for the big hex nut under the black plastic cover. Also a word of advice. It's also easy to remove the VCU while the tranny is in the vehicle-- So don't stop your conversion-- Just install the motor and tranny if you like. You can still get to everything and not be at a work stoppage. PM me if you have any questions.

would a 5-speed VCU work in a 6-speed? I would like to help out the community, so if someone can offer me a welded doa VCU in exchange for the working unwelded 6-speed VCU and pay shipping, I'll call it even. If I wasn't pressed for time and money I'd do you all a favor and use my dime to help y'all out, but I'm eternally overbudget with this car.

Isn't there a way to weld the VCU that is reversable? When Bret Brinkmann did his RWD VCU welding he said it's reverseable... can the same be done for FWD?

As there is a shortage for good VCU's and perhaps there might be some trouble finding a DOA VCU, i was able to find what MachV motorsports calls their 'VCE'...that is Viscous Coupling Eliminator. check it here: http://www.machv.com/viscoupel.html .Granted, its made for the AWD Eclipse/Talon/Laser, 90-99. But since it fits the Galant VR-4, there might be a chance of compatibility with the 3KGTs.

Obviously, its more feasible and cheaper just to weld a DOA VCU, but as alluded to above, this VCE would definitely be a reversible process, being that it is a bolt-on device.

Just thought i throw in my .02 cents.
