I agree man I was about to write it under my AWD threads but yeah I'm currently doing the same for my dad. He needed a VCU before. We bought a transmission just to get the thing. Now the VCU i've welded im switching with Ty for his good working one. Dont destroy the good VCU no company makes them! Hard to find! Try and find a already damaged unit.
NO company makes VCU's for our cars?! Looks like eventually we'll have to convert to the torsional style center diff that gatecrasher proposed several months back.

Not yet at least. And Mitsubishi will only sell you the complete transmission! If theres a way or a company that does manufacture our VCU air it out so we can all breathe it in!
Please do your AWD brothers a favor and if you plan to upgrade your FWD TT to an AWD trans, if that AWD trans has a good VCU don't weld it.
Sell it to and AWD guy and buy a DOA VCU to weld.
That's a good point Alan. From the design it honesly wouldn't be to hard to make something in the center diff to eliminate the VCU and planet gears altogether for FWD cars. It would just take alittle machining. If I had another center Diff and output shaft sitting around, my Air Force friends in Metals Tech could do it in no time. But it wouldn't really be cost effective since welding the VCU is free. You would have to buy another part to make it work. Maybe there is a way to use FWD parts and alittle welding to eliminate the VCU... Let's put our heads together and figure it out. FWD guys don't need a VCU --- AWD it's a must. We'll find a solution. I'm sure it won't take long!!!!
