Default Cracked Transmission - Few Options

Ok, hi everyone, I have a '93 3000gt NA 5 Speed. A little while ago I noticed my transmission was leaking, and I took a look under the car and what do you know, there is a huge crack in the case. Im not sure exactly what did it, but I do know that a short period before the crack my car popped out of 5th twice (5th syncros are shot).
Anyway, I dont have a picture of it but in the attachment is a quick picture to show you, the red line represents the crack.

Ok, the way I see it, it looks like I have 4 options..
1) Replace that part of the housing that is cracked, considering how it is isolated to that part. Also, replace the 5th gear syncro on my own. Problem: Im not sure how wise this would be, nor if I can even get that part of the housing seperate.

2) Find a used transmission, do a swap. Problem: Every used one I find is "as is", which scares me, who knows what true condition it is in.

3) Go through this Jack guy I keep reading about and have it rebuilt, which costs closed to the amount of most of the used trannys I have found. Itd be nice as well because I can feel some of the other syncros starting to go, and I would have the peace of mind that everything is ok when I get it back.
Problem: The crack problem is not on the list, and im not sure if theyd do that for this particular case. Im not sure if they even replace the 5th gear syncros, its hard to tell from the wording on his site.

4) I've read a little bt about a converted getrag transmission, which would be nice if I ever decide I want alot more power, but Im not sure how hard these are to come by, nor how hard the installation would be.

Im really leaning towards getting it rebuilt, but Im not sure. Any input is appreciated.

- Matt

You can replace that end cover, you'll just need to find someone who has a junk transmission otherwise who's willing to part with it.

If I were you I'd get yours rebuilt. Unless you're going Forced Induction sooner than later, the longer gears in the getrag would probably not do good things for you anyway, and on top of that you'll still have the same issue as buying a used fwd trans.

I dont know whats under that crack, but whats wrong with welding it up. I have done that on many covers, buts its more difficult when there are bearings seated in the cracked spots. It should be easy to find a cover from someones trashed trans.

Kormex sells parts for the DIY types.
