Default 5th gear slipping out of gear?

Whenever im in 5th, and only 5th. If im on the gas, or decelerating its fine. I can accelerate fine. But 1/2 to 3/4 of the time when i get off the gas the shifter pops down and out of gear. I can prevent it from doing it by holding the shifter up when i have to let off the gas. It will occasionally grind coming out of gear.

When i drive. If i hit the gas the shifter will move in the 5th gear slot. forward and back.

What could this be?

Stake nut is loose. Dont use 5th until you fix this. You will end up destroying 5th gear and possibly your entire trans.

There are instructions on how to fix it. Just have to search.

I pretty much have the same thing, very seldomly (like 1/50) happen to me in Reverse, should I also stop using reverse until I fix it?

No. Reverse love to be tricky on these cars. Besides reverse isnt driven in for miles and miles so it wont destroy things like a loose stake nut on 5th will.

Pull the passenger wheel pull the pastic cover off that covers the trans. Drain the trans. unbolt the end cap on the trans, have someone hold the brake while the cars in gear and tighten the shank nut. VERY simple just did it on my buddys NA last weekend.

Just to let you know you dont have to pull the trans this is just a picture I have layin around.

Yeah def. dont use 5th until you fix it. I did and i ripped my transmission wide open (not exaggerating)
Its an easy fix, really easy. Ive never worked on a car in my life and pulled the tranny (had to at the time, you probably wont need to) replaced all of the broken internal and external parts, and put it back in running fine.

BM Tranny LSD Insert Installation

gives great info / pics on how to open up the end cap, or the entire thing if you ever need to.
