Default 3000GT Transmission Leak. HELP

I really need help with my transmission leak. The car is a 98 3000GT SL (non turbo DOHC) 5 speed. The car has been leaking transmission oil from where the driver side axle is connected to the transmission. I have changed the axle seal before to an 3sx seal but it is still leaking. I took it to the shop and the mechanic said that the axle was bend a little. Not too bad where you hear noises when you turn. There's just a little play in the driver side axle. The passenger side is good. THe car is pretty old and used up. Im just hoping that I don't have to rebuild or swap the tranny. Ill post some pictures of soon. Any help would be appreciated.

If the tranny shifts fine etc. I don't know why you would need to replace it. If it's leaking where the drivers side axle goes through the seal, then it's either a bad seal or something really screwed up with axle. I know you said you replaced the seal, but... Now as far as the axle being bent a little? If it really is bent replace it. I would get a second opinion though. I think it's highly unlikely that the shaft is bent.

I've taken the car to two autoshops now and one said that the axle is bend a little and the other said that theres a little play in the axle. THe transmission doesnt shift smoothly unless I shift gear slowly. But then again, its probably low on tranny oil. I'm thinking of changing the driver side axle, but can I just change the driver side axle and leave the passenger side alone? I was wondering how far in can the driver axle go? I know that the passenger side, theres a clip, what about the driver side?

i think im having the same problem except my trans seems to shift perfectly fine. it seems to be leaking out of my drivers side axle as well. i would like to fix this so how hard exactly is it to replace the seal? could you link me to a tutorial or something?

sorry to thread hijack but didnt want to make another thread on the exact same thing.

If the drivers side halfshaft mount in all the way? I know mine was a little leaky and it stopped when I tightened up my mount as it was not in all the way. Worth a look.

might as well add a second hijacker here, same problem after a rebuild, figure i screwed the seal up (also noticed the wierd lip around the axel where it meats the tranny is a bit bent) shifts fine but the stains on the driveway are a bit annoying

just curious wayward son, do you mean the bracket mount about halfwaydown the cv axle?

I will try to see if I can push the axle in more. If that is as far as it goes, I'll just replace the axle and see if that will fix the problem. I wont be able to do this until a week or so later. I'll post the results once I complete this and hopefully this will fix the leak. For those that have the same problem, if you are able to fix the problem, let me know. Thanks

Does anybody know if the Non turbo DOHC 3000GT have differential carrier bearings? I've looked around the internet and found a few people with similar problems like mines and a couple of people suggested that it was the differential carrier bearings that went bad and caused the leak. Here's a link that talks about it. Axle seal leak - Maxima Forums. I could not find any differential carrier bearings for the non turbo 3000GT. Do our cars even have one?

I just toooked the car to Red D Transmission here in California. Had them do a tranny diagnostic on my car. They said that there's something in the tranny that's causing the leak. It will cost $1150+ parts for fixing the tranny. Is this a decent price for removing/dismantling/installing back the old tranny or should I get a used one and just have somebody swap it? How hard is it to swap the tranny?
